Hi y’all, new to the forums. Im an old avid PG2 player who just discovered Panzer Corps and I have immersed myself in it (PC Gold). I have heard about the new Panzer Corps 2 and am curious as to how you think it compares to PC classic. Is it really that much better? Are there any issues you don’t like about the new game? Im just curious because I loved Panzer General 2 but PG3 was a disappointment in my opinion so hoping this isn’t the case for PC2.
Welcome! If you are a big fan of the original Panzer General series, you will love Panzer Corps! I am an old fan dating to the original which I bought in 1995. I loved PG2 even more and played it for years by immersing myself with the vast array of excellent user-made campaigns. If you too were a big fan, you'll surely remember
"Steve's Panzer II Campaign Page" (now defunct).

Anyway, I discovered Panzer Corps shortly after it originally released and loved it. It resembles the original Panzer General 1 more than PG2, however. This you probably already know as it sounds like you have already been playing it.
So in short the answer to your question is YES! to buying Panzer Corps 2. It is definitely better and you do not need to fear a repeat of the Panzer General 3 experience.
Having played both for thousands of hours, there are a few things to be aware of before you dive into PC2 though. This is my opinion at this point.
Whereas PG2 had a great mod community, the devs of PC have taken a lot of that expansion greatness on themselves. There are great mods for these games too, but you are not dependent on them to take your experience to the next level. Both games have DLCs with a lot more supposedly still coming for PC2.
In fact, for both PC1 and 2 I never played the vanilla campaigns after the "Grand Campaign" (GC) series of DLCs were released and the same can be said of PC2's equivalent "Axis of Operations" (AO) DLCs.
Like PG2 added elements that were greatly loved and entirely new to the series like heroes, Panzer Corps does the same and continues that tradition with PC2.
The collection of scenarios in PC1's GC is overall better than PC2's AO. The same mysterious person, known as "Kerensky" on these forums, is largely responsible for both. That is not to knock PC2's AO series. It was really hard to top his work on the GC while at the same time not do a complete repeat of it in PC2. In doing so, there are some great triumphs that you are sure to really enjoy, while also some, "Oh, I wish this was more like what he did in the PC1's GC DLCs."
One of the biggest changes in PC2, is the introduction of "Overrun" which you will remember from PG2. Heroes play a much more expanded and powerful role, and the stats have been reworked once again. Debate rages on this forum (and probably others) concerning the details of all of these things and more, but I am not going to include that plunge into the rabbit hole in this post.
My advice to you is to first completely enjoy and get your fill of Panzer Corps 1 before you move on to PC2. It will be hard for you to probably go back once you enjoy the new improvements and features of the sequel and yet there is much goodness in PC1 too that you don't want to miss it either.
Hope that helps. Ask specific questions that you may have and there are a wealth of very knowledgeable people on this forum who can weigh-in and answer them.
