This is too open to manipulation if you do the draw by pool performance.

I fear if you do this there will be groups of wargamers in all corners on the sunday trying to work out who could beat who and which players are weaker. If your going to do different themes I think thats enough anything elese will be to much interferience IMO.

It might need "something" adding though - 3 separate singles comps is a bit dull, although its maybe also a bit late in the day to be tweaking it.

What would be good some day would be "everyone plays with each army at least once". I did play in a 2-player team comp in France where they did this - each player had 2 armies, and had to use the others army once during the weekend - very interesting.

If you forced teams to decide the order they would use each army before the comp it would make the organisers life a lot easier though.

Agreeing with you again Tim! 8)

Personally I would prefer to see something else - the team draw system (which many object to) is better than a series of unconnected singles competitions. Everybody playing each army at least once is a very good idea which I would support.

Maybe next year but its too late to be changing the rules now. What would happen if you did'nt have a team. What if the first time you saw your team mates was Saturday morning. What if other teams had loads of practice with there three armies, how would that be a level playing field. Not everyone has a team of three some people might not have a club to belong too? I would suggest you test this event out first see if it works before changing it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll probably resist the urge to tinker this year but will probably do a bit of a straw poll at the event to see what people think of the format & what they would prefer for next year.

Cheers

The comp in France I mentioned was one where I met my actual partner had to drop out, so I got allocated a new team partner and saw his list (and he saw mine) for the first time on Saturday morning. We ended up both playing games (DBM) swapping between using Khmer and Skythians - which were rather different armies !!

It worked a treat, and was excellent fun and an interesting challenge to boot.

actually - which rooms are the FoG games to be played in at Derby?

Is it back in the main sports hall, or in the classrooms upstairs?

In the main sports hall - same place as the DBM comp last year

Does anybody know the answer regarding the army selection for the FOG 15mm competition. Is it date restricted in the book? Could I use an army dated 350ad (even though listed in the rise of immortal fire.)... Say Indians (Gupta option)

Or- Any List from “Rise of Rome” or “Immortal Fire” including those listed in the appendices as relevant for themed tournaments.

The armies listed above do have date restrictions as per the book ROR – 208-25BC... are you following those? Or can I use Thracian when it was an imperial Roman client (100+AD)?

The competition is themed by book and not by date. Therefore if an army is in one of the books specified then you may use it - whatever the date you pick - so any Thracian period is OK. Similarly, where additional army lists are specified in the appendices of the relevant books then these are also OK to use. I think both of your examples are therefore fine. Happy to deal with specifics - please either PM me or send me a note to Mlu120@aol.com

Thanks Robert

Looks like there will be a minimum of about 12 teams judging by the info I have to date - so a decent response. I'm not sure when the organisers will start thinking about cut-off so if anyone else wants to enter I'd get your cheques in quickly!

Cheers

12 teams is a good showing for the first year of a new event. I will be interested to see who is and who isn't there.

I know that it'll be tight with the list deadline effectively this Friday (which is most likely when we'll submit), but any chance of Runners and Riders before the big day?

Sure, I'll post a list at the weekend if not before once I get a clearer view of the entries.
