Yes, I could. But last season players who reached the knock-out stage didn't like the scenarios that were provided too much, so this time I am going to allow players to pick their own armies.

Pete,
I think the issue with the knock out stage scenarios were the unit match ups (which were very similar on both sides if I remember rightly) that lead to the battles being a bit of a lottery , rather than the use of the default battles themselves. I can't see any issues with Roman maniples against Seleucid pike blocks.
cheers,
Dave.

I'd prefer a Custom Battle with two pre-specified armies only and leave to players to select and deploy units, along with a pre-specified map terrain. And not an Epic Battle.

Classical Antiquity

Instructions

Here is the full army list for the Classical Antiquity league section. There are over 100 armies available to choose from and, initially, players are required to choose 4 of them from different nations (so not three Carthaginian armies and one Seleucid army, for example). You may choose to use one type of ally with each army selection and these must be nominated now. Please also notice also the regulation regarding the “Diadochi nation” of mainly pike armies at the bottom of the army list.

Please post your army selections in your order of preference in this thread and indicate whether you want to play at 1200 points or 1600 points.

Important: you cannot pick your 4 armies, or their allies, from nations that you used in your last season in this section, whether you used them as your main army or as the allies.

Note: the default size for armies in this section is 1600 points. Matches may be played at 1200 points where both players have indicated a preference for medium-sized battles.

Once players have been organised into divisions of 10 based on their playing experience and ability, they will then be allocated one of their four choices. The allocation process will give preference to the lowest rated players (see FOG2DL ratings) in each division. Only very occasionally might a player be asked to make another selection at this stage.

Players will need to have both the base game and the Immortal Fire DLC to enter this section of the tournament.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with both the Rules of Competition and the Players' Guide.

Themed Event

Instructions

This section will have a Seleucid theme for Season 10.

Matches in this section are played to a tighter schedule and must be prioritised above matches from other sections. A full schedule of matches will be published before the tournament opens on February 1st. Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread. The group stage matches will be completed in the first 5 weeks of the competition, the knock-out matches will be allowed around 18 days for completion in the second half of the season. Unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication.

As usual,12 players will constitute a pool, which will be divided into 4 qualifying groups of 3 players. At the group stage players will play each other in mirror matches so the total of individual battles played by each player will be 4. Only the winner of each group will proceed to the knock-out stage, which will consist of semi-finals and final (again using mirror matches).

Where players finish with the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the points aggregate from the matches between those players will be used to decide the final places in the group table. If this does not separate the players then lots will be drawn to determine which player proceeds to the next stage of the competition.

New players to the FOG2DL will not be initially eligible for this section (but this may change later if recruitment is opened up for a second pool of 12).

Note: all armies are 1600 points in this section.

The historical match-ups for this season are as follows . . .

Group stage (players will get 2 of these pairings)
1) Seleucids v Antigonids (based on battles between 311-309BC and again in 301BC)
2) Seleucids v Indians (Invasion of India 305-303BC)

I have set up the recruitment threads this morning ready for next Monday. Recruitment to the High Middle Ages section will not start until Thursday 4th February, the day the game is released. This section will be run here in this forum with all the other sections in order to keep the tournament together. I will put a "sticky" over in the FOG2 Medieval forum on 4/2 directing players here. Hopefully we will pick up some new players by doing this.

Please also note that from this season onwards players will be required to express a preference for either 1200 points or 1600 points in all sections of the tournament . The default sizes of battles are as follows . . .

Classical Antiquity and Late Antiquity - 1600 points
Biblical, Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages - 1200 points
Themed Event (Season 10) - 1600 points

Asking now already: if a player doesn't express a preference, will he be interpreted to favour default size or to be indifferent between 1200 and 1600 FP?

Default size.
If you enter with default size can you later choose to play a particular game at the non-default size if that is that player's choice?

No, just stick to your stated preference please otherwise some players will get confused about the rules.
