Cha Cha Cha Changes

If players have updated patch and have LT.

I think it may be only fair to use either the early Mid Rep army or later version if you are not facing a Mid Rep army.

Haven't noticed much of a change with Carthaginian armies, except the later one.

Luckily though as we do not need to pay X amount of money to paint etc army and then find out with new updates, that army is now useless (happened to me a long time ago) you have wasted money. Bring back Carthage in Italy!

If both players are using a mid rep army both should agree on using the same one. However this is still a prob if neither have new patch or LT.

Can not remember if patch changed format of some army build or LT or combo of both.

I am OK with any option

It's the patch that broke the existing lists, not LT. At this point you won't be able to accept a challenge from someone with the patch if you don't have it. Had that problem with an LoEG game. LT just gets you access to the additional LT lists.

I think it's fine for any MRR player to choose which flavor of the list they want to use. The new variants appear to be two subsets of the old list that more faithfully limit what allies can be used together the way the TT list does but I don't think we need to limit a player to either 2nd Punic War allies versus post 2nd Punic War allies. I think the Carthaginian list variant being used for this is intact with LT as released. I'd suggest that all the RoR Cup challenges at this point be open to any book rather than just RoR and that its safe to assume that the opponent accepting them will the appropriate list ;-).

I am working this weekend so only managed to deploy my forces. Now it's ericdoman1's turn to deploy.
Tomorrow evening we can start the brawl in earnest :D

We have both deployed on the map that consists of, clear hills within Hidde's deployment zone. Clear hills and some steep hills to the right with a plantation and stream running by the side. Most of the hills are within Hidde's deployment zone and or first move.

On my left are 2 BLOCKS of steep hills. One I can reach the other Hidde can reach (the crests that is) on his move.

Then we have wide open plain, prob 2/3 of map.

Most of our cataphracts are facing one another as well as the Saka ally contingent and both of us have a huge screen of LH and LF.

The differnce is whereas the majority of Hidde's LF are average, mine are poor and I have maxed out on MF, Hidde has none. Hidde won initiative and so I was able to move first.

Come on you Brits!

I'm pretty sure I have mostly poor LF as well. I didn't think I had any average actually but I guess I'll have to check when I get home from work :D

Pyrrhic Battle Details: Hannibal won the early skirmish rounds and was soon 6-0 up, but when the pikes engaged the battle soon swung back to Pyrrhus, with the scores evening out about 15 a piece. Then Pyrrhus' massed hoplites attacked Hannibals reduced left flank of pikes the cracks started to appear. The hoplites despite a 2:1 advantage couldn't compete with the pikes. Meanwhile on the other flank Pyrrhus' massed cavalry a couple of MF and a few pikes faced a line of MF and a couple of cavalry waiting in ploughed fields and steep hils behind a river, this was stalemate for the first half of the battle. Slowly Pyrrhus' pikes were winning the centre, but the hoplites were dropping fast. Pyrrhus withdrew his cavalry to exploit the centre and then the Hannibal cavalry and MF attacked the weakend line. The MF were both fragmented in 1 charge and the MF started to encircle the pikes and overwhelming them with numbers. Despite often disrupting on impact the sheer volume meant the few pike defenders were fighting at disadvantage. At the end the Hannibal centre gave way pretty much at the same time as both Pyrrhic flanks. The losses were too much for Pyrrhus to bear (the story of his life!) and the Pyrrhic army was vanquished. Thanks to Petran for an interesting challenge that could have gone either way with a bit of fortune.

Our heralds have announced the presence of the Parthian host, no pike tips sighted on the horizen yet though...

Standing atop our hill we have spotted the Parthian horde.... and very hordey they are. We sent a message of greeting tied around a scorpion bolt, hope that light horse unit had a chance to read it, otherwise we are wondering if we have enough sticky sap to pin the LH in place or we will have to don runners shorts to chase them all about the hills.

Match 5 (Very Open): Suren Indo-Parthian Hidde (4/61) v (2/71) Suren Indo-Parthian Ericdoman1
Numbers don't tell the true story, I'm afraid. Eric totally outfoxed me in the build of our respective armies...or should I say, I messed up :(
The fact that he have many MF and I none is the biggest miss on my part. I spent to much on commanders. Have nothing to stop the MF with while occupied with his cats.
Letting LF & LH get caught and destroyed doesn't help!
Guess I'll have to quickly crush his cats with mine and then take care of the MF :P

Well I finally figured out how to take a screen shot on this laptop (FoG PC won't run on my PC since the viral death  ), so next turn I'll post a shot of the looming hackfest.

And in the following melee round, the Ptolemies whole front line of pikes goes disrupted!

Just what you want when faced by enemy swordsmen....not looking good.
