"I wanted my new suit!" he exclaimed as he twirled around showing off his auxiliary chainmail and new tunic. :P

Well, I have some news that may affect the RoR semi-final vs BatesMotel and my 700 point opening battle vs Mauryan Indians vs Hidde.

On Sunday I will be travelling to Egypt (scouting mission to recruit some Arab Camelry ) and so will be unavailable for 2 weeks.

I've just started my game vs Hidde, so there is a chance it will finish before Sunday.

I've been waiting for the Bosporan fix for BatesMotel's army for weeks (seems forever) and I doubt it'll be out before I go. Maybe the fix won't be out before I get back! So, either wait for me, give the game to BatesMotel (I'm sure this was his sneaky plan ) or allow Deeter or IanIoW to play for me (if the Bosporan's are fixed in my absence). I know both of them know the tactics to use with Seleucids vs Bosporans

Thanks to Blathergut for a very close game. Most of which I thought I was going to lose as I had been badly beaten by a Late RR B&Cassius army, quite recently. Three bits of luck helped me, an elephant that refused to die for ages and 2 of those bizarre break offs, where you break off in a strange direction and are then in a position to charge the NME in the rear.

Cheers

Eric

Hi Morbio

Thanks for the heads up, if you can get the 700pt ROR/IF game finished before you go that would be great, do you want to stay in the tourney if you win the battle?

As to the 500pt ROR tourney that's had the issues with the Bosporans, I think it best to just go ahead with the final so we can move on to other tourneys without these problems involved.

cheers
Matt

The 700 point match is in progress and Hidde has let me know he has lots of free time, so I expect we'll get that finished.

Re. The RoR Bosporan match: I'm not sure what you are suggesting. Go ahead with the final? Pantherboy versus whom? If I drop out then you still have the Bosporan problem. If BatesMotel drops out then either I have to play before Sunday or someone else has to ply my team. Or you can wait for my return. I don't mind either way, but please confirm what you want to do. Thanks.

I was proposing having the ROR final between pantherboy and batesmotel to reach an end to the original tourney, potentially another patch will be released soon with the Bosporans fixed but this isn't definite. Is this solution going to be a problem?

cheers

The only problem will be getting the Bosporan patch(es). If it comes out while I'm away then feel free to have the final. If it hasn't been issued before I return then I guess I get to play the final against Pantherboy.

If you still wish to play the semi - final I'm sure batesmotel and pantherboy will be happy to wait until you return to play it....

I've no problem waiting Morbio. Though I think my Judeans can handle any Bosporan threat easier than Seleucids.

Are you saying your Judaeans can handle a Bosporan threat better than Seleucids can, or that they can handle Bosporans than they can handle Seleucids ?

The Judeans have answers for most of the Bosporan threats while Seleucids are just all round super and tough to fight.

3 ) hidde - Maurya Indian vs Morbio - Later Seleucid (post 166BC)
Result:

Hidde (Maurya Indian) 70/69 LOST - Morbio (Seleucids post 166BC) 54/63 WON

An interesting challenge that started like a Bosporan 'catch-me if you can' approach  with the Indians peppering the Seleucids with so many arrows it looked like a night battle. In addition to this a quarter of the, impressively large, Indian army with 4 elephants swept behind the pike line in a large flanking move - it was left to a few slingers and archers and a squad of cats to keep their advance on the rear to a slow crawl. At the main line the Seleucids couldn't bring their cavalry and cats into action because of the Indian elephants shadowing their every move. Eventually the Selecuids managed to hide the cavalry behind a long wall of pikes that enabled them to lose their pachyderm shadows. Only then could they burst into the walls of MF archers and bring the battle into melee where the pikes came to the fore. Once the pikes had destroyed about a third of the Indians they retreated to woods and swamps where they were the masters. Only some innovative use of slingers, bowmen and mobs meleeing in the trees stopped them flanking the Seleucid line. Meanwhile at the front the pikes and cats pushed on to pick off the retreating MF. Even the introduction of the elephants failed to stop the onslaught because the pikes took a heavy toll.

Great battle, great fun. Certainly a new experience for me! Thanks to Hidde for a great game.

Yann and I have played about 6 turns, the big clash is just about to happen, but he will now be away until the 24th.

Hope we can have a few more days, will try to finish it as fast as possible after this....with cataphracts vs barbarians the resolution will come fast......

ROR/IF 700pt Tourney result 1st round

Ironclad (Early Sarmatian) 56/57 defeated TheGrayMouser (Pyrrhic) 54/54.

A nail-biter, which somehow I won (just) despite spending most of it withdrawing before his ever advancing phalanx. Fortune favoured the faint hearted!

Will there be a new Tournament? I want to get past the first round  the next time. If so put me in it.
