Was a close fight... The Byzantines were coming through two mountain passes. I deployed my African spears and mercenary hoplites in a narrow pass on the back end of my area, and my mediums in a forest screening one of the two passes the Byzantines would have to come through. My cavalry and skirmishers were driven off pretty quickly, and the Byzantine army was pouring through the opposite pass rather than risking moving by my mediums... I was down by 20% or more at the start. But the spears held up well and my mediums swept out, breaking several Byzantine units - mostly the poor quality limitanei. I nearly managed to even the scores, but the battlefield had become a chaotic mess and the roving Byzantine cavalry (and some cheeky massed archers) got some flank charges off, and on literally the last turn of the game I had two units break which just pushed me over the edge. I almost managed a draw, but the Carthaginians gave way just before nightfall.
Good game, it was a much closer one than I expected at the start!

Division 1 Regular
Aetius39 (Indian) defeats TomoeGozen (Greek) 61-44
Indians got some good hits in the first few arrow salvos, but mid-game swung in the Greeks favor as several disrupted units regained cohesion and since they were fighting archers...destroyed them.^^ Finally though, the Indians regained the upper hand, partly due to the Greeks getting stalled by a brave chariot that just wouldn't rout. GG TomoeGozen, it was fun!

Division 1 Regular
rbodleyscott (Indian) drew against Karvon (Jewish) 12:0
More of a prolonged skirmish than a battle, all of Karvon's non-light troops remained hidden in or behind terrain for most of the game, making an attack into the unknown fairly suicidal. We therefore contented ourselves with fghiting off his numerous light troops.

Regular Division 2
rs2excelsior (Arab (Abbasid) 874-946 AD) beat Kerait (Roman 199-106 BC) 59-28
The Romans literally had an uphill fight. The map was split by a deep stream with a hill on my side of the map. Most of the Romans were able to get across the stream uncontested, but then they faced an attack uphill against my Dailami and spearmen. I was able to resist the attacks by the regular hastati/principes, but the Roman veterans managed to punch through my right flank including the dailami on that flank. My lancers crossed the stream on my right and managed a couple of rear charges, and my Ghilmen harassed the Roman mediums across the stream and forced them into a disadvantageous attack across the stream. The infantry fight in the center got rather chaotic, with both of us getting a few flank charges, but in the end enough of the Romans gave way before their veterans could tip things back.
The map at the end:

Good game - it was literally an uphill fight, and the Romans made a good run of it. But the map was unforgiving and the Arabs held up well. It was a fun battle!

Division 1
TGM (Skythian-Saka) defeats General Shapur (Galatians) 42-60
At first it seemed my elephants would carry the day, but then suddenly they decided they had enough squishing Galatian heads and all routed! Then it was the Galatian warrior hordes time for revenge swamping out my remaining cats and Indian foot. Fortunatly my cheap Indian cavalry finally got into the fight and broke the Galatian foot with rear charges. Good game sir!

Division 1
snooky51 (kyrenean greeks) defeats blagrot (avars) -- 67-40
The Avar horde was halted by brave hoplites. Poor terrain for the avars - water narrowed the battlefield, rough terrain and woods further narrowed the front. Plus a deep stream down the middle. A blood bath still, good game.

Challenge1 (Norman) drew with bomber23 (Arab) 41-43
With only a few hours of daylight remaining and both armies trying to regroup it was decided a draw was the only possible outcome.

Division 1
Blagrot (Assyrian 681 - 609BC) beat Rbodleyscott (Indo-Greek 175BC - 10AD) 63% - 48%
My cavalry died to man delaying much of the indian army while I took out the pikes and elephants, the indian archers suffered some sort of collective panic attack as the assyrian foot closed in and some late rallies (including both elephants!) weren't enough to turn it back.
Thanks for the game
