Division C

SawyerK (Byzantine) barely defeated Bluefin (Alan) by 60-54.

This battle between two all cavalry armies descended into chaos on the third move when the lancers from both battle forces charged. From that point on, there were no battle lines and instead an ever growing number of flank and rear attacks slammed home. As Bluefin stated two thirds of the way through the conflict, the winner would be 'the last man in the saddle' and I was fortunate that turned out to be me.

Morat (Lombards) beat Barrold713 (Palmyrans/Armenians) 62-55

Chaotic battle where the Lombards had early successes on both flanks (with the opposition not much liking the Lombard lancers). Then the fight back - Palmyran foot and archers smashed up the centre and shredded warbands and horse alike. In the end the Lombards just squeaked a win: with the remaining lancers and horse just having enough to get over the line. But it was very close, and could easily have gone the other way.

Many thanks to Barrold713 for a great battle.

M.

Division E

DryNick (Arab Conquest) defeats kronenblatt (Rus with Bulgar (Danube) allies) 62 - 52

A very close game that could have easily gone the other way. Both sides were conservative and careful in approaching the enemy, with very few flanking attempts for the first half of the battle. Eventually the superior quality of the Arab spearmen allowed them to take hold of the center of the battlefield. In the meantime, the Rus archers did an excellent job at routing the entirety of the Arab cavalry and lights, which allowed for a successful flanking attempt on one side. Unfortunately for the Rus, the battle was over shortly after.

Good game, kronenblatt! Looking forward meeting you again on the battlefield.

Blagrot (British 600-1030 AD with Viking 780-899 AD allies) beat kronenblatt (Rus 960-1053 AD with Bulgar (Danube) 852-1018 AD allies) 60% - 45%

The British had early success with the huscarls (and sheer numbers) breaking the Russian centre, evasive lights and well maneouvered foot kept the Russians holding on for a time but eventually enough units were caught and killed to claim victory, thanks for the game and chat :-)

Many thanks to the both of you for two great and fun battles and your well deserved victories! In both cases my centre broke, which I have to give some thought afterwards, but I managed to hold on anyway, at least for some time. But had to give in at the end. Thanks also for pleasant and interesting chats about the battle and other real-life stuff; makes playing so much more fun and is actually as far as I'm concerned a very important (even crucial) part of playing and enjoying FoG2.

Blagrot (British 600-1030 AD with Viking 780-899 AD allies) beat ggarynorman (Pictish 477-850 AD with Scots Irish 477-899 AD allies) 41% - 0%

A brutal game for the picts who charged in aggressively and mostly bounced, the penalty to medium morale in the open made a massive impact as the British shrugged off most lost combats and the Picts dropped or double-dropped, the British cavalry slipping around the flank delivered a coup-de-grace. Thanks for the game and the spirit you took it in and I hope to play you again soon.
