hey Will05, you dont need to renew alliance for current allies, just use the diplomacy phase to get new ones

Once you have an alliance it is good thru the end of the year (and would need to be renewed in the Spring Diplomacy phase)

Cheers!

I'm going to wait and see what Slitherine's response on the suddenly non-evading cavalry is (it certainly changes the dynamic of our game). If it isn't correctable in the near-term, I'll soldier on.

Siege rules clarified/modified

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in the season, but I wanted to post new siege rules before the season starts. The issue is Peters notes are actually missing for many aspects of sieges and what he does have is a little impractical as players (and umps) would need to live on the boards/ make decisions really quick….
What I have done is clarify and slightly modify the rules but also tried to keep the original spirit of them. Please note: In order for the game to flow/have transparency of what is happening, siege rules really start when war is declared, so please consider the following steps :

1) Player A declares war and invades player D
It is incumbent on player D (perhaps using the chat function in the ist turn or so) To tell player A what province the battle is in

2) Player A wins the battle and posts the results. Player A should also post the following info: province he is in (A will know this due to step 1) and whether either side has an inspired leader (A should know this as well)
3) This is very important for the flow of the game: At this point , as SOON as practical, B needs to announce his intent to A and the ump whether he is fighting a second battle or retreating into a city*****

Note, I realize many wish to have the recalced army strengths before they make this decision… I have no issue with A or B posting the results as well, but if players dont feel comfortable recalcing, please pm me to calc. for you asap!

4) (assumes player B declares retreat to city) B of course reaches out to an ally to come to his aid At this point , the SIEGE is officially begun

RULES
Once the ally is declared to be marching, player A has a decision: Assault, Treachery or Starve(which is the default)

5) A does this immedietly via PM

6) A will have to make this decision for every “turn” that the siege is under way before the Relief army (R) arrives
What is a turn?
A turn is considered to be the # of grids it takes for R to move into to D’s province per the map, +1. Example if A and D are adjacent, that is 1 grid away , and there will be only 2 chances to Assault/Treachery/Starve

***Note, I will PM A to make his decision for each successive turn, there is no set rules but roughly every 5 battle results posted This is the most arbitray, difficult part of the rules and if anyone has any suggestions let me know…..

Misc:
*if the city falls (prior to A and R fighting) R has a decision: He can go home OR continue the war in the normal way, A gets a full strength army and declares territory he is defending.

Exceptions: if R and A are already fighting elsewhere R must go home: Reason: it violates the rule of no counter invasions/multiple invasions vs the same nation
Also, A cannot invade R just because R is sending a relief army for the same reason.
If R does go home, A could of course attack R

If the city does NOT fall, A and R will fight a battle
if R wins the city is saved
if A wins: R goes home and the siege continues

Rules for when D has no ally(or no ally sends an army R) or if R loses the battle:

If this is the case then the siege continues until the city falls The maximum “turns” in a season will be 7
Player A will need to make a decision to Assault/treachury/Starve for every turn left in the season. For theses cases, no ally or R army defeated, a turn will be considered for every 5 battle results posted

Example:
A is besieging D, R is declared to be marching and is 2 hex grid away(not adjacent)
A has 3 decisions and rolls to make before R is in country
then, if the city didnt fall and A and R fight:
If R is defeated, there will be a max of 4 additional turns that season to see if the city falls
A gets to roll/decide to Assault etc once every 5 battle results are posted
NO other ally can be called in that season
(note that 7 is the max turns and the season could end prior)
If the siege continues to the next season, D can call another ally and turns will once again be considered to be based on the grid distance from D to R

Finally delay of game rules very arbitrary but to keep things moving A and D should get their decisions posted/pm’d as soon as possible (this also includes an ally declaring he is marching)

If the D or ally appears to be delaying the game, a free “turn” will be given to A, if A is delaying then some undetermined detrimental thing will be thought of

All alliances communicated have been registered on the post at the bottom of the Current Players, guidance and Map section....and an unholy mess it is - most people can't move without stepping on some-ones toes!

....Advance notice that summer campaigning kicks-off at 00:01 GMT Saturday.....

You have until then to finalise and post/PM alliances, then wait up until midnight to beat your enemy to the draw.........

I will be absolutely clear: the nature of random events is that one never knows if they happened, didnt happen or were even forgotten

Have the Gods spoken? Interesting that the new rules were applied to our game even though you had not upgraded.

At the summer meeting on the Tuamanite mound the assembled Nobles of Tuam agreed :-

To endorse the treaty with Ironclad.

To invade Vespasia as a direct result of their meddling in Tuam's siege in Nanotuck.
(Invasion via lands of Delian Confederation and Clan Brave)
To invade The Empire as a direct result of their meddling in Tuam's siege in Nanotuck.
(Via Crimea and Arrakis)

(Yes there is a queue for meddling)

To continue to pursue the battle to rid Tuam of the Hypoxian menace.

And finally to declare war on Rhome for permitting the armies of Vespasia and others to meddle in the affairs of Tuam.

(PMs to follow)

Dear Reinstated King of Armenia,

Your army will be much fatigued by the time that it arrives for battle. There is some 2000 miles between the Australian West and East coasts .... so a bit of a march as your troops first arrive at the Gold Coast Beaches, have a little swim ... before marching across a waterless desert to arrive at Westralia :D

Thanks for the challenge
