kraff - Kushan 130 BC-476 AD defeats SLancaster - Roman 197-284 AD: 63-58

A very hard challenge for me. I won, because I was lucky - my elephants held their ground long enough to allow me to perform some flank and rear charges with my horse archers and break some of the enemy forces. For most of the match we were going head to head and it was decided at the very last turn. SLancaster routed my last elephant unit, scoring 58%, but I in turn had Cataphracts ready to rear-charge and break already fragmented Mediocre Roman Legionaries, and that gave me 63% and a victory. Thank you for the challenge, SLancaster.

Badger73 (Roman 105-25 BC with Armenian 331 BC–252 AD allies) beats hscic (Armenian (Tigranes) 83 - 69 BC) 50-23

This became a battle of position. The Romans first needed to move where they could secure their flanks from the more mobile Armenian Cataphracts. Then legionary infantry could successfully scrum against Armenian infantry. Fun game. Great opponent.

Fun match. My destruction of his left and right flanks left his centre pikes vulnerable to flanking.

Thanks for a good game. With more loose order infantry the Pergamenes won the battle for a steep hill that dominated the middle of the Roman side of the map.

Iain, I have a question: in the game I mentioned where I was winning 56-64, the other player never returned the turn. After a week I "claimed" the stalled game, and when I clicked on it in the Completed Games tab, I got a message that "Player was removed from the game: [PlayerName]".

I've never seen that message before...he didn't surrender, so was he removed because of the stalled game, or for some other reason?

Pool B group 2

Captain Savage (Greek) defeated snooky51 (Spartan) 60:44

Another close fought match that could have gone either way. Those Spartans do like to rally after a few turns of running away! The Greek cavalry caused a lot of annoyance this time without much direct effect but did allow the Greek infantry to manoeuvre to advantage. The most important thing they did was attract the Spartan reserve and then run away once I had lost my right flank (and therefore avoid becoming casualties). My success on my left flank was allowed to prosper and eventually swung the balance. I felt more in control of this battle but it was still a bloody mess.
