Maybe it's just me, but this must be the umpteenth time someone posts a cool icon and you reply to it by pointing out "the icon you use", which is always one of HBalcks whom you conveniently fail to even credit. He might have been an a** in many regards, but it's his work, so you can at least point out it's his icon you use and appearently like best...

guille1434 wrote:Hello to all!

In order to fulfill a request made by Akula for his marvelous mod, here is an icon pack for the SU-76M light assault gun. As he correctly pointed out, the stock game icon was for the earlier, not very successful and very scarcely produced SU-76, which was different in the power plant arrangement and in having an enclosed combat compartment. With these, you can have the mass produced version of this useful light unit.

The pack includes all base icon and masks files to be used with the DCS software (I checked the new version! The possibility to arrange icons in folders is a blast!!!) Also there are icons for a variety of Soviet camo schemes, and also the unavoidable German captured unit, and also a Finnish captured one!

I hope yo like them. As always, use as any of you see fit.

Cheers! :8

PS: Thanks to Flakfernrohr for providing me with some very useful reference images! :-)
Amazing piece of work! :D
Thanks a million Guille!. It is nice to see your great contribution for the Eastern Front again! :D
Your SU-76M is just beautiful, I will use to replace my clumsy attempt at once.
I dont know if still phcas is going to make the icon, it is going to be a tough fight :P .

Best regards Akkula.

Absolutely true, and maybe it's just me, but I also think that especially someone having the "Panzer Corps Moderator" written under his nick should set an example in this regard. In my view credit should go where it belongs and writing something like "I use" without mentioning any source (even if unknown) might create the false impression in some readers that the image was created by the person who is (re-)posting it.

As for the SU-76M, the icon that "I use" is a simple modification of the vanilla SU-76 icon, for which the credit should go to the creators of this excellent game. Basically I just modified the fighting compartment to make it appear open as I think that was the main visible difference between the original and the "M" version:

I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation. Though I try to use vanilla icons wherever possible or whatever people are kind enough to donate to the project. In the case of Rome, I ma using some placeholders that I made so that I could get the thing moving, but I try to make as little demand on others as I can. It would be nice if everyone adopted this philosophy :D

As for credits, they tend to be located throughout the project's thread, and if I remember then they get added in a readme file or an update to something else. But I don't agree with posting icons I didn't make everywhere (with the exception of the nuke unit, which is easily the coolest thing I now have a copy of! - guille made the original)

As for Razz's unit that 'he uses', I had no way of knowing it was HBalck's work as I only joined the forum after he got kicked off, so yes I was surprised to find out about the author. Maybe a good idea for next time?

Well, a little note about what it is being discussed here... I don't like very much H Balk icons, while they are Ok, technically speaking, they do no look "PzCorps-ish" enough for me... I usaually like to "blend" the best parts of several sources, to make the icons I want to give to the community, including other peoples icons parts and bits, vanilla game icons, model photos found in the internet, etc... But I always try to avoid using H Balk's work... Because for the reason I mentioned earlier, and because I read some of the postings of that person and he was extremely rude and nasty to other people of the community, so I prefer not to use any of his stuff.

That said, Akkula I want to give a big thank you for your nice words! But please take note that I will soon upload a slightly improved version of the SU-76M. And an icon for the SU-76I is also very near completion... Stay tuned!
(sorry man I misspelled your nick-name in my earlier posting!)

BNC: Thanks also to you for the atom bomb icon! I am glad you liked it so much...

Enjoy!

Ok, chaps... As I already mentioned, here is the SU-76i Soviet assault gun, the complete pack with base Icons and masks, in AT and Artillery versions... I think this is a good time to release it (I was making it from some time ago, but I just finished it two days ago...) because people was asking for it in some other threads... I hope you like it!

PS: Phcas, Flak, Maguro... Thanks for sharing your excellent work in this forum... All of your stuff is very good!! :-)

Of course! All the stuff I upload here is to be used by anyone in any way he sees fit. This was always the way I liked it to be and so will be in the future.-
I am very glad you liked the unit...

And now, a very rare unit (at least for me, because I did not know anything about it)... A RSO tracked tractor with a troop carrying trailer! Have a look at a reference photo and to the basic icon (the mask file is in the process of being made, and will be released in due time) I just wanted to share this interesting unit... Enjoy!

Good to see you getting back into "the business" again Guille. That "circus wagon" I have seen before. Pretty unique indeed.

As always, FANTASTIC job Guille, thanks a lot. Adding this beauty to the Soviet arsenal (actually replacing my old icon).

A liitle departure from my present Soviet armour schedule... Answering a request made by T2_2112, here is the complete pack for the Ju-287V-1 experimental jet bomber... Also, I will release later an hypothetical operative version with defensive positions added to make it look more like an "in service" machine. I hope you like it!! 8)

Edit: New, improved version uploaded. Thanks to Phcas for allowing mw to use parts of his wonderful work!

Of course I did 8) . But I think I will be not able to use them in my mod :( as their first prototypes were built much after the war.... But maybe I could be a little bit flexible regarding the date realism, I don´t know.

Unforgivable! :D
Guille although I like your T-44A very much I think the angle is not fitting the rest of the game icons (vanilla and user-made overall), could you try to improve it?. Seeing your fantastic job with the IS´s, and SU-76´s I just want the perfection for my project :D .
Here, a T-44 if you need more material in case you decide to fulfill my ask:

Thanks in advance.

Akkula: You are right on the spot, I was looking to the T-44 rather critically, because its angle of view was not fitting, so I had made a mental note to improve that unit... Now, you saved me from half the work, the research part... :-) I will start "cutting metal" later today... Thanks!!
