Good, thorough explanation by Pete. One thing I would like to add...
instead of "PrntScr" use some screen capture app. I use something called ScreenHunter Free. Much more flexible.

There has been activity of some sort in all matches now although a number of players are reporting to me that their opponent has not been in contact. The committee will start chasing up these slow starters tomorrow. There are a number of things you can do to help the committee . . .

i) post your challenge publicly in this thread (some of you have not done this)
ii) send your opponent a "private message" (PM) too (some of you have not done this)
iii) read the forum regularly and "log in" each time in case there is a "private message" for you (some of you are not even doing this! :? )

I am sorry if I sound like a pedantic twit  but doing these things will help us make the competition more enjoyable for everyone and it will help us get our adjudication decisions correct if it gets to that stage. The reserves are on standby and we will start replacing non-starters on Thursday so those players who are waiting patiently can start their match.

Klayeckles (early Ach persian Plat) 8/43
Kilroy (Ghaznavids) 23/21

The Ghaznavids sent out a screening force to shoot up the approaching persians...but the covering fire of the advancing persians reduced some of the cream of the Ghazavid army, in exchange for some dinged up persian school boys with bows. The Dhalami hoped for an ambush from some woods, but the persians found them and commenced to bring on the missile fire on them as well. by the time the persian screening force pulled back to make room for the persian main force, the Ghaznavids were bloodied and harried. the unscathed immortals charged forward to enter the frey, and with the help of some fresh cav were able to frustrate and finally rout the Dhalami and Ghaznavids...

I have received a complaint about my use of large font. Apparently it is annoying and it makes me look pompous.

Now I must admit I do enjoy behaving in a pompous manner from time to time, but the point about the large font is that it makes messages from the committee stand out on the page and catch the eye when players are scanning the pages quickly. When you are trying to communicate with up to 64 players and they are all posting stuff in the same threads then it is quite a useful way of getting messages across. Plus, the joint advert we did with pantherboy for the two league competitions was actually designed in large font from the outset anyway. But as a concession, once a message in large font has become obsolete we will reduce the font size to normal again.
