The score for TGM vs hidde not worth mentioning?
Anyhow, after an orderly start where things went according to plan the battlefield is starting to get a bit chaotic. A Hillmen BG on the Parthian side have acted like they're on steroids and caused the rout of two of the Hatran cataphracts.
The battle hangs in the balance...

Turn 10
Deadtorius (Early Armenian(Khosrov I)) 43/51 vs Tofman04 (Bosporan(Mid)) 35 or 37 (don't sure)/56

The Bosporans won the initiative and they choose a mixed battle field. They had the camp on a hill protected on the both sides by vineyards and tranches.
In front of the hill lie a wide open plain with some water/lakes on the right side.
The Bosporan army consists from armoured lancers, horse archers cavalry, city militia (medium and heavy foot), sindi foot archers and a mix of mercenaries (Greek, Thracian and Celtic). Like allies they have a contingent of Sarmatian armoured lancers, on the right flank, with mission to pin Armenian cataphracts before them at all costs.
The Armenian army consists from Cataphracts with Roman (legionaries, auxiliary foot and cavalry) and Alan (Alan nobles and Alan horse archers) allies.
The battle begun with skirmishing and for a long time was almost a cavalry fight with both sides trying to win the initiative. Both generals kept the infantry in reserve. The Bosporan infantry occupied slopes of the hill with medium foot and Celtic mercenaries on the left, city militia taking the center and Greek mercenaries on the right, being ready to support the cavalry and a rallying point for the disrupted cavalry. For most of time the fight hangs in the balance with a perfect equality in casualty.
Slowly, Bosporan horse archers, supported by Thracian mercenaries, archers and some city militia, destroyed the Alan horse archers before them. On the right flank Sarmatians are almost completely destroyed but they complete their mission until now to pin and slow the Armenian cataphracts before them.
In the process Alan nobles are not doing to good as well. Bosporan lancers supported troops in need.
With the passing time Roman infantry started to advance trying to support Alan horse archers on their right flank and with the main force almost at the hill base. Now the Bosporan lancers start to charge the Roman legionaries and auxiliary foot. Still the heavy foot city militia and Greek mercenaries are kept in reserve.
Let's see what's next...

Here is the result of my battle verses Petran1978:

The match up and terrain are listed above. The Punic MF had a significant advantage in the rough on the left and routed their opponents. Next came the Roman allies who routed some spears, but at some cost to themselves. The cataphract C-n-C impaled himself on African spears and died along with some other cataphract units. On the extreme right, the Alans were cut down by a combination of massed elephants, veteran spears and all the Punic cavalry. Their leader was routed.

Final resulte: Carthaginians (Deeter) 28/68 vs. Amernians (Petran1978) 54/46

Thanks for the game Petran! You had a hopeless task trying to punch through all those spears in a frontal attack, but soldiered on anyway.

The battle was meant to be with an Open terrain selection. Was this selected and you chose the most mixed of the options presented or was the selection wrong?

I choose Open like it was supposed, but I took the most advantageous for me from options presented which in my opinion is more mixed than open.

We have new champions as HANNIBAL regain the crown as the world champion. Whilst Caesar has started to handover the wooden spoon it seems there may be some resistance from Pyrrhus to accept it... can TGM or Deadtorius pass the spoon on? :?:

OK, thanks for clarifying that. I'm glad all was in order especially since it is such an important match in the 3rd/4th play off!

As captain of the Pyrrhic team I'm sure that my fellow team mate will do all their best to prevent such handover and I even dare to say that there is no chance for the Ceasarian to loose the wooden spoon!

Go hidde and go tofman04, you're doing a great job and your captain has the greatest trust in you!

My Captain, I will do my utmost not to fail your trust :D
The battle grinds on. The dice are in an unpredictable mood but at least it swings both ways.
The numbers looks fine but the Parthian Hillmen continue to take big chunks out of my cats and the camels don't do as good against their horse counterpart as I wished.
With fewer cats I can't afford to have them continue to underachieve.

The dust has settled and Tofman has come out victorious. A close game for every turn until the last. The Roman foot did not perform as expected and my cats got caught way off on my left too far out to make it into the main fighting. My unstoppable Armenian general also ended up catching a Bosporan lance in the throat and his corpse lies among the dead Cats. Plan A was to keep him out of it but he anarchied into the Bosporan right and seemed to be the only cat that could defeat the Bospors so he kept on getting into it over and over until his life was ended.
Congratulations on a close fight, the terrain was definitely in the Bosporan favour final score:
Armenian 50/50
Bosproans 43/56

WE actually ended up within 200 casualties of each other by the end of the game so it was a very bloody fight indeed

The dust settles over this one as well. Not much to say. All the troops milled about on the big open field. A bit chaotic and rear charges could be had from time to time. The Parthian camp got looted.

I think I'll take a rest from the next cup and let some new blood into the team. I've a lot on my plate at the moment. So a big thanks to Morbio for organising this and I look forward to helping out the ROtW next time.

Cheers,

Steve

First thank you for the game. Was great and challenging.
For me, patience was the key. I resisted hard not to rush in a charge with everything I've got.
Again thanks for a great game.

Cheers

The captain is proud of all of you! :D

A bronze medal is only the first step for new, higher results. 8)

In a few hours I'll start my 2 week vacation, which will be 2 weeks without the internet! ... I hope I'll survive!

During the meantime it would help if any changes of team captaincy and team line-ups can be sorted out so we can start CC IV in early August.

Thanks to everyone who took part and it was great to see some change in the results, there's nothing worse when the same team wins all the time. It was also good to see different individual performances (although I'd like to forget both of mine with the Parthian army  ) and nice to see two close results at the end.

Thanks again,
Morbio

Final result:
1st Hannibal
2nd Alexander
3rd Pyrrhus
4th Caesar
