Didn't realise it was that confusing to follow the recent posts for the latest tourney, both the previous tourneys are still ongoing though so perhaps that doesn't help. Maybe sticking to one tourney at a time would be easier all round in the future.

cheers

Thanks Matt !
Take note nevertheless that I prefer play Parthian partly because I am sure to have 700 points for this army. I am not sure for Lydians -)

Apologies for the delay on the SOA semi-final, ianiow and I are duking it out, celt to celt, at about 25/50BPs each - can we have an extension to the end of the week?

Also, now I've read the thread, I think that there are too many tidy pike armies in the IF tournament, we don't have enough barbarians - I'll redress the balance with the Galatians (Macedonian invasion), instead of their enemy.

davouthojo - Ok, will put you down for the Galatians. Yes end of the week is ok for your SOA match result.

We have 14 players signed up for the 700pt ROR/IF tourney, still need two more players for it if anyone is interested.

cheers
Matt

34/50 each now :) A very tense 'trench-warfare' style battle fought in woods, bogs and on steep hillsides. Lots of units on D's and F's.

SOA Semi-final result:

Highland victory in our celtic clash!

Welsh (ianiow) 59/52 6,100/15,600
Highland (davouthojo) 40/56 4,758/16,800

A very tough fight, as the welsh took advantage of the crowded terrain, using the steep hills and woods to protect their lighter spearmen, and on the other wing the welsh knights with their french allies charging repeatedly into the highland lines, routing unit after unit. Well played Ian!

Good luck to both of you.

cheers
Matt

But both those armies were interesting. I do love cheap infantry!

If we need an army for IFR as well, I'll stick with Ordonnance Burgundian.

RoR/IF 700pt First Round

Quick recap of the rules below for those that haven't played in the previous tourneys.

Armies to be used are 700pt Rise of Rome or Immortal Fire only, the first player in each tie is to submit the challenge and then PM their opponent with the password for the game. Fog of War and double move are to be enabled for all games.

Players must stick to their original army choice throughout the whole tournament, any changes to the troop selection desired are allowed from round to round, so you will be able to tailor your force somewhat depending on what enemy you are going to be facing.

The first round will have eight ties in one group, the winner of tie 1 will play the winner of tie 2 and the winner of tie 3 will play the winner of tie 4 etc etc down the list. In the eventuality of a draw the army that suffers the lowest amount of casualties will go through to the next round. Please post results to this page.

If both players agree that they are not happy with the map the battle is to be fought on, they can restart the game in the hope of getting a more agreeable map.

In the case that neither player in a battle is prepared to be the aggressor and a stalemate ensues that cannot be resolved by starting again and completing within the given time frame, then I will have to flip a coin to decide who goes through to the next round.

As this tourney is larger than the previous ones I suggest a 14 day turnaround, so current deadline for first round matches will be 24/08

Good luck to all, first round draw is below.

1 ) yann - Parthian vs davouthojo - Galatians (Macedonian Invasion)

2 ) iandavidsmith - Early Sarmatian vs deeter - Seleucid Successor

3 ) hidde - Maurya Indian vs Morbio - Later Seleucid (post 166BC)

4 ) Amaz Ed - Graeco Bactrian vs ianiow - Ptolemaic Successor

5 ) Ironclad - Early Sarmatian vs TheGrayMouser - Pyrrhic

6 ) pantherboy - Gupta Indian vs maximus - Late Republican Roman

7 ) Blathergut - Mid Republican Roman vs ericdoman1 - Later Seleucid (post 166BC)

8 ) batesmotel - Later Achaemenid Persian vs iversonjm - 26th Dynasty Egyptian
