Thanks!
With that information, I should be able to get one of my teens to walk me through it. I forgot there was a mod forum.

I would like to try the mods, especially Battlefront Europe, but I’m afraid I may be too computer illiterate to install a mod.
Is there a link to step-by-step instructions on how to install mods? I don’t even know where to begin.
Installing mods for Panzer Corps is unfortunately not as easy as it could be.

I wrote this detailed step-by-step guide to guide players through it.
It might seem a bit long and tedious, but most of it has to be done only once, and then that preparation works for every Panzer Corps mod you might want to install in the future (if done exactly as described).
15 minutes of focused work for hundreds of hours of fun.

The infantry game is better in PZC unusually ~ I used to rage about how Infantry was awful, but I think PzC2 is a vast downgrade in terms of Infantry warfare/units.

PZC2 is Pioneer spam (imo), whereas PzC I can find a use for the Heavy Infantry, the SMG guys (omg they were so annoying), and I had reason to bring basic Infantry alongside anything else. Heroes were beelined to Engineers, especially if they were movement heroes.

PzC2 the issue is close defence, they just don't provide what is necessary for their intended role ~ there's been tons of discussion on this mind.

PC1 has the better Grand Campaign for Germany (again, IMO), with some great scenarios in the early war; Piatek was fun, whereas PC2 went far too niche. I enjoyed the Saar campaign but, let's be honest, the big cake on the table is supposed to be Poland. PC1's campaign seems more well thought out in terms of direction than PC2. Though I do like the little story they did with PC2's campaign, I feel the alt-history was sanitised and a bit too convenient, washing its hands of the Nazis effectively, when the chances of that happening, especially if the war was in Germany's favour, were close to zero, IMO. Just culling the political elite was never going to reverse the Nazification of the general population.

There's also no Africa or Soviet campaign yet, and as they've shelved Pacific, it's just a bit of a content drought. Chess maps and tournaments aren't what I'm here for.

Hopefully they design the Poland + Allies campaign with care and put out something like PC1's GC in terms of length and intensity. We'll see though.

So there is still active development on PzC2?

Currently for two reasons...

1. I had to sell my gaming laptop due to financial reasons
2. It's still one of the best turn based strategy games ever.

Currently playing AK on FM (no italian challenge), trying to unlock other difficulties. And on Basra mission I got 2nd +1 range hero on my 21cm artt.unit... :D

Against the background of the mediocre second part, the first one looks like a divine gift )))) So classics are eternal !!!!

There're replayability and joy in simpler mechanic, in which i find myself in this scenario.
I have played PzC2 till end of 46' Scenarios. Just feel it... soulless, with all the better graphic and deeper gameplay. More like i always come back to HoMM3 despite of having good time with HoMM5-6-7.

It's still looking very good in 2026. Just reinstalled. I have to echo bondjamesbond, I never quite bonded (weak pun, sorry for that...^^) with Panzer Corps 2, but will give it another try soon.

Panzer Corps is the best remake ever so far in my book, Panzer General deserves so much kudos and shows what great games we had back in the days.

So much fun in 1.48 GB! Some other games I am playing are way over 150 GB already and are not nearly as well done.

I played Panzer General when I was young, Panzer Corps when I was already older and now, reinstalling it, I am getting really old. The number of WW2 veterans on D-Day is shrinking, and it is no longer such a big event and day anymore on TV and in public perception.

I "blame" Panzer General and Panzer Corps for fostering a lifelong love for strategy games and history. Many thanks to SSI and Slitherine!

Same here, I bought Panzer Corps 2, fully intending to give it my best shot, but I just couldn't get on with it as it's not as good as Panzer Corps.

In fact, as a veteran strategy game game player in his 60s, I only play 4 games really; all remasters or remakes of 1990s strategy games - so that says it all.

I did buy People's General (again!) from GOG over Christmas, although that's based on Panzer General, of course.

Wonder what the non Panzer General lineage games are! :)
I also very much loved Steel Panthers and Close Combat.

Both got some kinda remakes, none quite as well done as Panzer Corps, though.

Not that new but also interesting, even if sims/shooters never were my thing: War Thunder. It's free which means bloody expensive, though.

The availability of various mods makes Panzer Corps even better! Because now there are not only different theatres of war, but also different eras )))

Battle Isle 2 (Independent remake as Battle Isle 2020)
Age of Empires 2 (now remastered)
Command & Conquer - the original (now remastered)

I also liked Steel Panthers and have winSPWW2, but it's been a long time.

Battle Isle 1/2 were indeed great games, didn't know about the remake. It didn't quite work out as nicely in the "History Line" WW1 scenario. There was a similar style game with Mechs later on but it didn't keep my attention.

The remasters of AoE2 and C&C really hammer home and prove their great core design, IMO! Haven't played either lately, though.

I would like to add Close Combat. The series got quite a few remakes and expansions.

I have the first 5 (original big box versions!) Close Combat releases sitting on my bookshelf, along with Hidden & Dangerous and The Perfect General Trilogy. The Perfect General is a very big box... those were the days! Sadly, I've not played any of these games for a while, and they probably wouldn't like Windows 11.

Battle Isle 2 remake (Battle Isle 2020) is at Kitana's Castle, and he has also made a new campaign.

Yeah, by now I download and have no physical box anymore. The big boxes for Steel Panthers II, Close Combat etc... were quite amazing. There were also smaller ones, Achtung Spitfire and Over the Reich had way smaller boxes.

The two mentioned games were turned based air sims, something with a similar vibe is made by Slitherine right now again, called Scramble: Battle of Britain, btw. But with 3D graphics. Let me add a thought about that, not sure if having visually way superior 3d models of the planes actually adds that much to a turn based strategy. We have been there at this point already decades ago and debated about that...^^

I would not mind a Panzer Corps 3, going back to a modernized UI and style of Panzer Corps 1. Let's see if the Creative Assembly makes a third Total War Medieval one day, right now the next one will be Warhammer again, 40k this time.

While I like Warhammer a lot (I particularly enjoyed reading the Horus Heresy), I am not sure if it is a great fit for the ever same Total War engine, even with adaptions.

Edit: Sorry, I am starting to go off topic...

I rarely buy games now, but when I do I also download. Those big boxes are just useless, beautiful, relics...

Battle Isle was ruined by going for the "superior 3d look" with Battle Worlds Kronos; a game I helped to get released with Kickstarter out of loyalty, but like Panzer Corps 2, I haven't really played it.

As for going off topic, I'm not sure too many people still read this thread to complain!
