Division E
snooky51 - Ghaznavid 962-1187 AD defeats Barrold713 - German 888-932 AD with French 888-1049 AD allies -- 63-58
German cavalry was separated from their infantry by a forest, which proved to be the deciding factor. Ghaznavids routed the German cavalry early and used what routs they could squeeze elsewhere to win the race to 60. Considering how the German infantry cut through the Ghaznavid army like a hot knife through butter, the early 20something-0 lead proved decisive.
(3-1)

Division C
SawyerK (Roman 285-312 AD) defeated MikeMarchant (Roman 24 BC-196 AD) by 61 to 48.
The game was essentially tied at 56 each before two unit recoveries in the last two turns for my army led to a lucky victory. Props to Mike for a very well designed offense that should have had a better outcome.

In this game it looked like my horses took some amphetamine or EPO. 2/3 of my attacks ended with a rear attack (sometimes foreign skirmishes or other horses helped in this by prolonging the evade, but still there was an awful lot of luck in these attacks).

Addition to Rule 5 for Season 9 . . .
Posted: Wed Jul 22, 2020 7:01 am
by stockwellpete
There have been too many instances this season of players prematurely surrendering matches when the scores have been relatively close, and even one occasion where the resigning player was actually ahead on the scoreboard. This is not too far removed from failing to play a match at all, in my opinion, something that often affects a player's entry rights in a subsequent season. While I don't want to stop players resigning when they are well beaten, I think we need some guidelines to stop the throwing of matches before they have been decided properly.
So, this text, or something very close to it, will be added to Rule 5 for Season 9 . . .
"Except in situations where players have mutually agreed a draw, it is preferable that everyone plays their matches to a full conclusion where one of the armies is routed. However, it is acceptable for a player to surrender before then if they feel they have no chance of gaining any points from the match. The threshold for doing this is if a player is 15% or more behind on the scoreboard, for example if they are losing 0-20 or 10-35.
A player should not be surrendering a match if their score is still within 15% of their opponent. If, for example, a player is losing 20-30 or 5-15 then they should continue the match until one army is routed, or the acceptable threshold for resignation is reached. If a player still decides to surrender a match in these circumstances then such an occurrence will be recorded. A player who does this repeatedly may then suffer reduced entry rights for the next season that they enter the tournament."

Division E
Captainwaltersavage - Roman 24BC-196AD with Jewish 64 BC-6AD allies defeated gamercb - Lombard 568-569 AD 40-12.
It was closer than the score suggests with another legion about to break and the Lombard warbands holding their right flank. and beating on my medium spears from a hilltop. I brought lots of cav to the battle having learned my lesson from the Byzantines and they did sterling work against the lancers and cav archers. Thanks for a real nailbiting game as I took some chances that lucked out.
