The western Roman empire had chosen to rely heavily on its barbarian foederati, bringing along some Auxilia Palatina and Roman horse but using Frankish warriors for the bulk of their line. The Eastern Roman empire deployed a small infantry force on a hill with archers overlooking the position, while the Byzantine lancers formed the bulk of the Eastern striking force. The lancers crashed into the warbands and pushed around the proper Roman infantry on the right flank, taking casualties to the enemy skirmishers and horse archers but pushing through in the end. The warbands were formidable, but fragile, and once their morale started to waver they broke quickly to the lancers. By the time the warbands got to the Eastern infantry they were disorganized and split up, and got flank charged by nominally inferior eastern infantry and lancers. The warbands were just unable to hold up well enough to pull back a win, in the end.

limitanei and legio comitatenses held out heroically against elephants on my right, while Byzantine superior dismounted lancers made short work of Pre-Islamic Arab City Foot and massed archers in the center. The Byzantine mounted Lancers, supported by lots of light foot archers, also got a lot of nice rolls and follow up charges against the Arab/Sassanid cavalry wing on my left.

Triarii - Jewish (64BC-6AD) with Roman (105BC-25BC) allies defeats Snugglebunnies - Roman 199-106 BC with Greek 227-146 BC allies 61-39.

A tough struggle with two pieces of rough ground which after a prolonged LI skirmish allowed a the Jewish troops to hold until, after a couple of frustrated attempts, they eventually flanked the Pontic line and the phalanxes.
