Carthaginian mediums managed to overcome their foes in the hills, while staying away from the Assyrian chariots on the plains.

alexhstandish (Skythian and Thracian) drew with IMC (Spartan and Roman) 27: 45

The Spartan army was like a horde of ants, near all Thereophoroi and Pikes in vast numbers. The Skythians shot many to pieces but eventually they ran out of arrows and were not able to hurt the pikes at all.
Meanwhile the foot plodders managed to corner some Skythian cavalry and kill them.

Thanks for a tough and interesting game IMC.

This civil war was fought in a congested battlefield with a steep and difficult hill in the centre and a lot of woods. The later Germans brought more lancers and the earlier Germans some Magyar horse archers and a lot of light bow. The battle was however, as to be expected, a proper dark ages slog between superior and average spear grinding each other down.
Battle could have gone either way.

Aetius (Romans) defeats Morat (Byzantines) 59-33


Tough fight for the Romans, going against an all-cavalry army. The Byzantines put up a really good fight; a lot of flanks and double teams on both sides, but in the end the legions and their cavalry support got enough of them. GG!

Division A

Stones1985 (Parthian/Seleucid) beat Aetius39 (Carthaginian) by a score of 62 to 42.

The cavalry clashed on one side while the infantry hit each other in the middle. The Parthian/Seleucid cavalry and light infantry were completely victorious over their Carthaginian opponents whilst the Carthaginian infantry completely overwhelmed the pikes and peltasts of their enemy.

This lead to a situation where the Carthaginian infantry had to chase the cavalry/light force that were shooting it up. They gave it a brave try but in the end the more manoeuvrable Parthians and Seleucids were able to gain the upper hand. They were helped by a Seleucid pike phalanx and imitation legion ralllying in the backfield which lead to a win.

Aetius (Egyptians) defeats Stones1985 (Assyrians) 50-25


Initially the Assyrian archers did a bit of a job on the approaching Egyptians, but then things evened out when the Egyptian front line broke through the Assyrian right. At the same time, though, the Assyrians put massive pressure on the Egyptian right; eventually their cavalry was held off enough while the Egyptian front line troops finished routing them, although at a high price. GG!

Division B: Dark Ages period of 600 AD - 1000 AD.

Result:

Final score: IMC 40% to Ironclad 38%
