I'm beginning to wonder if I'll want my games counted next round. I'll be throwing off the win/lose ratio like a pro.

Dont worry...this game takes awhile to get the hang of all the little tricks and such. The more you play, the more you learn...especially with the players you will be playing...There are some really good players here. Watch what they do and try to remember and use such tactics that work. It just takes time....I have been playing for awhile and still do some impulsive stuff that gets me in trouble...lol. I cant help myself...

jcb, I can't tell you how much I learned from our games. Can't effectively put it into practice yet but seeing you work opened up some of my understanding of what I can do. At some point....

Mike, yeah, even getting frustrated at times by my own impulsiveness and general idiocy its been a blast watching my opponents operate. I'm looking forward to playing the next round. I'm hoping by the 4th round of Normandy to provide a more complete challenge.

After your latest results, the German to Allied win ratio is now down to a very respectable 1.7x.

...which those of you playing the GJS'44 campaign will immediately realise, means it should take 1.7x Allied BGs to breakout from each beach sector, on average...

As a reminder, here's what to expect...


HILLMAN BATTERY STRONGHOLD
Two miles inland from the Sword landings, Hillman was the site of approximately 12 coastal guns, defended by extensive underground bunkers, interlocking trenches, MG nests and barbed wire. Allies enjoy naval artillery, medic and rally. Germans can call down inland artillery, medic and rally.

Brits: Force selection includes 185th brigade, 3rd British infantry division, again with its mix of 1st Bn Suffolk regiment, 2nd Bn Kings Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI), 1st Bn Royal Norfolks, MG platoon from 2nd Middlesex regiment and 27th armoured Staffordshire Yeomanry, supported by 17pdrs from 20th AT regiment
Germans: Force selection predominantly from Krug's headquarters and defence staff of 736th regiment 716th grenadier division, supported by counter-attacking elements of Feuchtinger's 21st panzerdivision

Not 100% sure yet, because it's still the end of Christmas/New Year quiet season, but for any budding strategists out there...

Regarding Hillman in Tourney mode, from whence will the illustrious allies be attacking? North? South? East? West?
As you well know, that will make a huge impact on the map dynamics. I'm just curious though to know what you've decided to do.

It's a great question, Jcb. Choosing the right approach, as Allies, or preparing for it, as Germans, makes all the difference. But you know that, as you're our only Hillman winner so far!

I've permitted the Allies to deploy their forces into any of the three northern rows.
So Allied commanders will be able to experiment.

Germans will have to either guess well, or keep their force locations flexible...

Down to the final 3...

Al (morge4) and I have finished our game. In a merry-go-round, the Germans (me) just managed to hold against the Allies. This game saw a great wheeling motion where the Germans moved onto the beach and captured his beach flag, only to lose it again and narrowly recover it. Al was very, sneaky.

Advancing along the beach, the Germans recaptured the bunker and then had to move through the forest to the inland flag, where the Allies were defending! A complete reversal of roles.

Thanks Al - that was a memorable game and could have gone either way.

Whoa i am really exited about how the next scenario Will be i think we have really good players and nice guys as well for what i have seen. So i think we Will be enjoying a lot the next round as well as this one. By the way battery problems resolved, so happy about it, thanks to a great computer phreaky friend who has changed the battery from my iPad. Allelujah!!
One question for Mr. Jon the 3 squares of deployment north, of the allies you mean it from the real north or from the north of the picture you posted? A hell of a big change: if is from the real north it Will be a tough mission, but covered with the woods posible, if it is from the picture north(real west) it Will be hell to cross that river not to say imposible... Suicide attack we might have tolay it with the japaness to have a chance...

Btw all of our GJS'44 battle maps have a compass rose marked in each of the four corners (all Hail to Richcat! )... Take a look at the compass in the bottom left of the map screenshot that I posted above...

But being able to deploy into all of the three northernmost rows of the Hillman map gives you much more flexibility than you might think...
