One point for the Pyrrhic armies!
Lysimachos (parthians) 51/66 vs Blathergut 74/72 (hatran)
A fierce battle where the Parthians gained the upper hand on their left flank holding the center and right wing with teeth and nails until the Hatran reached the rout threshold.
Come on boys, now, and let's get the bronze medal!

Match 2 (Open): Early Armenian(Khosrov I) Triarius vs CheAhn Parthian(Saka Campaign)
Degenerated into an incredibly chaotic cavalry brawl but the Parthian cataphracts in the centre disappeared early and left just enough time for the Armenian cats from the centre to swing left and right and envelop the Parthian wings (that does no justice to the chaos it became) - the Parthian right having chased the Armenian cataphracts opposite them spectacularly succesfully. It was very close - very much touch and go - until the last couple of turns.
Early Armenian Triarius 40/46
Parthian CheAhn 68/59

The Bosporans are heavily engaged with the Later Carthaginians with the current score at the end of Bosporan turn 5 with Carthaginians at 28/64 and the Bosporans at 12/68. The gallant Bosporan MF City Militia and Thracians are slowly forcing the steep and impassible ridge of opposing Carthaginian MF while in the center Bosporan lancers are cutting into the Spanish HF. The Carthaginian Campanian Hoplites initally facing the Bosporan right flank have shifted across the steep ridge and are now coming into the fray. Meanwhile the Carthaginian veteran spearmen and Poeni HF are shifting from the Carthaginian right to also support their center. One elephant cmoing to support the Carthaginian reinforcements just succumbed to a rear attack by Bosporan cavalry hors archers. Mean while the Bosporan left has fallen back before the Carthaginian massed cavalry plus Numidian light forces with a few losses. The Sarmatian allied force is now shifting and hope to be in place before the Carthaginian cavalry can turn the Bosporan flank.

(Later Carthaginians in Africa) ericdoman1 30/63 vs 72/71 dazzam (Mid Bosporans)
My initial favourable successes made the difference here. That is some lucky test passes, combat dice and one or two missile dice.
I think the game could have been reversed without these.

I think Eric is being a little kind here. While he did get off to a flyer with a few nice rolls his bold move to take his nellies through the forest so quickly paid off and combined with his spears managed to nullify the threat of Bosporan and Sarmatian lancers who were just passengers for the most of the game. They had hoped to get at the plethora of MF that comes with Carthaginian sides but Eric did a good job of keeping them protected in the pockets of rough terrain the map offered. Bosporans are not great defending armies and I made the mistake of playing defensively (which I can tell you does not come naturally) due to the nice hill I found myself on at the start of the battle. The storm of arrows from my poor LF archer & slinger horde was like a BB gun aimed at a Tiger tank. Well played Eric and apols to ROTW team.

End of turn 7:
batesmotel - Bosporans 25/68
razorback77 - Later Carthaginians 43/64
Bosporan casualties have mounted on the right flank where the struggle continue to clear the steep ridge. The Carthaginian center is collapsing while the Carthaginian right flank attack is bringing it's full force to bear on the Bosporan left and center. Fortunately the Sarmatian allies that moved over from the Bosporan right flank seem to have arrived in time to prevent the Bosporan center from being flanked at least for now.

Parthia (Hannibal) vs Later Carthage (Alexander)... aka Start badly and go down hill from there!
Probably the 1st mistake was the fear of the spears... well, not strictly, spears are to be feared with a largely horse army, it's more my reaction to them that questionable.
Having viewed my opponents options I figured he'd go max on HF and Elephants to counteract my cavalry threat and some cavalry for chasing down my skirmishers. Not having much in the way of infantry options to compete with plenty of HF, and being concerned of anarchic cats charging to their doom on massed ranks of spears, I decided to minimise my Parthian cats and go for more Arab allies to give some normal cavalry and some MF to take adavantage of any terrain that the mixed battlefield may provide. It also gave me the option of some Camelry cats which would do well versus any horse cavalry. I'd then max out on skirmishers to whittle down the ranks opposing so that when the inevitable cruch came then I'd have a fighting chance.
A nice idea... but the reality is that the skirmishers are making little impact on the masses against them and they are being herded into an ever-decreasing space and with so many skirmishers involved the permutations of chain charging (where a unit charges along the line of touching units, often beyond its normal movement range) is causing my head to explode!

This has meant that on a few occasions some skirmishers have become trapped and fodder for the HF and cavalry.
In addition about a 5th of my army is in danger of being isolated in the bottom left corner because of restricted movement caused by poor camp placement (Why didn't I place my camp behind the terrain instead of in the open?) A Dunkirk-type scenario is now unfolding whereby a rear guard fight is taking place by Camel Cats (fighting spears not the planned horses), Arab cavalry (ditto) and LH to try to allow many of the trapped LF and LH (and hopefully the cats and cavalry) to escape certain annihilation. Some will escape and so we, in true British mentality, will turn a disaster into a PR positive!
At present the score is about 14 losses to Parthia and 6 to Carthage with both armies in the late 60s (I keep forgetting to note the scores!), but the prospects for Parthia don't look good. I can only hope Hojo has a brainstorm and does something really daft, but experience tells me that is a forlorn hope.
Ian, I fear the hopes of Hannibal lie with you...

This time "very open" meant just that. The two sides are approaching each other and mostly skirmishing so far. Next turn will probably see some cat vs cat fighting.

End of turn 9:
batesmotel Bosporans 28/64

The Carthaginian center is pretty much destroyed. The counter attack from the Carthaginian right is chewing up the Sarmatians thrown in to stop it but haven't broken through yet. Resistance continues on the steep ridge on the Carthaginian left but the Bosporans are slowly chipping away at it.

The Bosporan left flank is cracking quickly at this point and the Carthaginians have inflicted substantial casualties in doing it but the Bosporan left held along enough due to the sacrifice of the Sarmatian ally general and his troops. Thanks for a good game.

Update for Deeter vs. Petran:
The terrain ended up being largely open with a mass of broken ground on the Punic left and little else except for some vinyards on the far right. Good terrain for both spears and cats. (I won the intiiative and thought I was picking something more congested. (I wish the preview maps were a little darker so I could make out the terrain better.)
The Armenians brought cats and plenty of Roman and Alan allies. The Punies brought everything of value including those excellent Bruttian MF and masses of Numbian allied MF.
We're in the middle of the game with both side's MF contesting the broken ground. Roman HF fighting Bruttian spears in the left center followed by the cats charging into African spears in the right center. On the Punic refused right flank, Alans are getting the worst of a fight with Punic cavalry, veteran spears and three elephants. Off in the distance, Numdian LF are playing with some Allans in the vinyards.
Current score: Punics 8/68 vs. Amermenians 23/46
