David just has to wear it when it gets cold. If he complains he gets to wear his dinner.

You'd be so lucky none of you infantry types using a proper army like the Skythians  When your back of your hols bring your Skythians to the club and we'll have a game.

Let's hope there are no potter wargamers out there, they would need a truck to get their terrain to the competition.

I did make some pottery ruined buildings when I was a teenager. The fact that my mum is a potter and has her own kiln made life fairly easy.

I am not sure I would want to cart a load of earthenware or stoneware trees around with me though.

I don't what Jim has to complain about pottery terrain for. After all he is the one with the Pictish stone casualty markers which are actual pieces of rock. Hardly travelling light himself!!!

Hi Jaques
I noticed that you were using Nikephorian Byzantine at Britcon.
Would you mind putting a copy of your list on the forum as I always liked Nikephorians under DBM and would like to try them in FoG but can't seem to come up with a good list.
Thanks

There are two different lists in the Nikephorians, one before you can have Norman Kn and one after. Jaques use the earlier list but Phil Powell and I used the later version at Usk in January.

Our list was based on 4 Normans, 6 superior Varangians, 2 blocks of 8 Skutatoi, several average lancer cavalry BG and everything else either light horse or light foot. I can't off hand find the list but it did pretty well.

Here it is .

Beware it is a pre 1000 AD list and would be difficult to use against a KN based army 8)

The list works well and has it's stenghts and weaknesses . The last game was the most difficult against heavy roman infantry . Due to terrain I had no other option but to charge straight ahead . I managed to break the roman left flank, but could not manage to do it quickly enough to win . The game with Phil's Italian Ostrogoth was a well balanced one but with wimilar units, dice were very important and that day, were not enough with me + I made one decision that prooved bad in the end . But interesting games , funny one's also .

By the way, I maintain, I was very lucky on saturday

As to why I took some units ...well that's open to discussion :D

Many thanks
The list looks interesting. I'll have to give it a go. I like the idea of the later list with the better quality Varangians and the Normans, however, I also like the Tagmatic kataphraktoi and you don't get very many of these in the later version (historically it wasn't as succesful as the earlier version either).

One of the things you have to decide is how to use the lone cataphract unit . I used it mostly in a cavalry line between 2 CV units . it slows down the cav, prohibits you sometimes from shifting one base but in a CV vs CV battle it might give you the edge needed .

Sounds like how they were used historically to me ;)

As for the shifting as long as you move as a BL then you can still shift as the movement of a BL is based on the slowest BG.
