Maeglyr's Byzantines defeats alexhstandish's Russo-tatars [ 64 - 51 ]

The immensity of the Pontic steppe has never been studied seriously. In 1374, perhaps, two expeditionary forces, Byzantine and Russo-Tatar, met there. The soldiers of both sides really liked to make maps.

We thus saw many riders enthusiastically walking around the entire battlefield, collecting valuable data, rather than fighting.

Finally, the Skoutatoi, some wet-blankets, eventually pushed part of the Russian cavalry to the northwest to fight.

A close battle that was determined by the randomness of some pursuit routes, and a final reckless charge of Byzantine archers on foot, which put an end to the Russo-Tatar cartography.
Some fun, here ! Thanks for the game, Alex !

Captainwaltersavage Ptolemaic 55-30 BC with Roman

Defeats

frederic02 Pyrrhus 280-275BC

40:11

The armies faced off on opposite sides of a deep stream with some rough ground in the centre and low hills to the left. The Ptolomaic forces managed to guess wrong when it came to face off against the Pyrrhic forces. Some rapid readjustments were required to sneak across the river on the left. Large numbers of cheaper troops won the day as my centre tried to fend off the phalanxes and the masses of mediums managed to flank the Pikes. A rally of some brave medium spears tipped the balance.

angusosborne (Antigonid) defeats frederic02 (Pyrrhic) 46-17

We fought on a narrow battlefield between mountains and and the sea. The Antigonids marched past the mountains and took control of some rough high ground on the Pyrrhic side. Having done that this became a straight up fight between pike phalanxes and ours were better quality

angusosborne (Antigonid) defeats CaptainWalterSavage (Ptolemaic) 62-37

We both had pretty good defensive positions, but agreed to march off them and meet in the middle. Ptolemaics had much the better of the skirmishing, but then I broke through on the right flank, although it wasn't decisive, Then I had one great turn on the left flank where I got the matchups going my way. It was still a hard fight in the middle, but by the end the Ptolemaics had little left but light troops.

drew with
Chris Townsend Egyptian 1200 - 1150
at the end it was 60% losses on my side and 62% on Chris's so i guess a draw , i cant even say the Egyptians held the field as it was all Egyptian.
I am not as eloquent as Chris and his reports but I will say it was a bloody good game and in my opinion a fair result.

Thanks to all opponents and the organiser for this TDC9 my Bronze age games are now finished.

by Chris Townsend
Division C

Chris Townsend's Kingdom of Soissons 461 w/ Germanic Foot Tribes defeat ulysisgrunt's Western Hunnic 376 59 to 33.

The Kingdom managed to choose a favourable battle ground - water protecting their right flank and woods protecting their left, with space in the middle to deploy their heavy infantry. The Hunnic cavalry (75% archers, remaining lancers) left their infantry behind and charged forward. They quickly won the light cavalry battle on the Kingdom's extreme left flank, and also managed to exploit some holes to get some units through on the beach, and the lancers punched another hole. However, in typical fashion, the victorious cavalry took too long pursuing, and the horse archers got bunched up and kettled between the advancing infantry, the sea and some difficult terrain. Victory was secured by some of my initially defeated cavalry rallying.

Good game!

This was a very tough battle, and I was fortunate that his battle line shifted alignment, allowing me to develop some flank attacks. I never want to face four Veteran Pikes again.
