Another slugfest which was the norm for the most part playing as the Germans. The fact that rockmanbob's Vikings had some Frenchies along for the ride gave the Germans that extra fight lust to gain the points edge.

A very cagey game - Venetian light cavalry attacked early and got shot up, English edged toward Venetian Men at Arms planting and lifting stakes until a horde of Venetian light infantry emerged from their concealment in woods and did some damage before being driven off. The affair of missiles.

Terrain with had a ridge beckoning the Vikings but it led towards a higher hill and woods swarming with effective missile troops. The damage they inflicted on the better quality Viking foot was crucial.

The Danish were holed up on a hilly fortress against which the Portuguese foolishly attacked and were driven off in a hail of arrows and crossbows. Their disordered retreat with mounting casualties tempted the Danish into a pursuit and much like the battle of Hastings, their advance to the plain was their downfall. The surviving Portuguese knightys got very lucky and smashed up enough stuff to win the day.

Thanks to carpenkm for making it an interesting battle after I ran away. As he said - he should have stayed on the hill - but that would have been very dull.
