Division B: Late Medieval 1320AD - 1500AD
Victory: SirMichael
SirMichael (Danes 1488-1500) 43
rockmanbob123 (French 1484-1500) 69
A very close match which went to turn 23 out of 24 before the 60-point damage victory threshold was reached.
With pride I can announce that I have gone undefeated in this Divisional tournament round. Not something that I expected.

principesromanes (Lithuanian 1100-1299 AD with Baltic Tribes 1050-1283 AD allies) defeats dragimo (Polish 1200-1319 AD with German (North/West) 1200-1319 allies) 64-41
The Germans position was anchored on one flank by a forest and a mountain on the other. In between those, were a steep (height 200) hill with a little bit of rough and an open valley. The Germans deployed with a mass of medium foot – including seemingly every crossbowman they could find – and a few spears on the hill, while some knights and dismounted men at arms occupied the open valley. The irony being that I rerolled the battlefield, and the first one was very similar in also having a narrow front.
In contrast, the Lithuanians brought bowmen, a few Baltic warriors and of course some cavalry. Some of the cavalry did indeed find a way around the forest, but not in enough numbers or early enough to have a material effect on the outcome.
The Lithuanians initially made rather effective headway attacking up the hill – arrows don’t care much about hills, it seems. The progress was rather delayed as the German knights inserted themselves into the fight, and the Germans did well on preventing flanking ankles. Things became pretty much a slog, but the German medium infantry and spearmen gave out before the German knights could do too much damage.
Thanks for the exciting battle!

principesromanes (Lithuanian 1100-1299 AD with Baltic Tribes 1050-1283 AD allies) defeats Indibil (Seljuq Turkish (West) 1155-1307 AD with Mongol (Ilkhanid) 1230-1353 AD allies) 44-9
Bowmen versus horse archers rarely favours the mounted bowmen. This was no exception.
The armies met on a fairly open plain, albeit one bisected by a deep stream and a few hills.
A few Turkish and Mongol horsemen made it across the stream before the Lithuanian bowmen could reach the river banks. However, the Lithuanian horse was in position to countercharge and, between a few disruptions and fighting downhill, the Turkish and Mongol horsemen mostly evaded. Which caused chaos and resulted in more horse battles than would be expected being fought in the stream.
The portion of that both armies that didn’t engage in a slow grind in the stream engaged in a shootout. And despite a valiant effort to concentrate fire on parts of the Lithuanian line (notably, on some Lithuanian cavalry holding part of the river bank), the Lithuanian bowmen as expected out performed the mounted horsemen. The Turks attempted to flank across the river, but had very little space to do so and were not able to get enough units across to outflank the main Lithuanian line. The Lithuanians, on the other hand, managed to break the other end of the Turkish line, and quickly started to flank the main line. The Turkish horsemen reasonably decided to make for the hills at this point.
Thanks for the fast-paced game.

Div A:
Nijis (Poles) defeats mcfcivo (Ottomans) 45-5.
The Ottomans took up a fortified position, bristling with cannon and Janissaries, while using their plentiful light cavalry to try to sting the Poles into a rash advance. The Poles however had generations of bitter experience with mounted steppe archers, and virtually every man brought some sort of missile weapon to the battlefield. They were able to fight off the Turkish cavalry and advance on the Ottoman flank, forcing the Turks to emerge from their defensive positions and fight an unequal battle against more numerous and heavily armored Polish troops on flat farmland.
