klayeckles (Indians) has closed the gap on rbodleyscott (Carthaginians) in Division A this week and now only trails by 5 points with 2 matches in hand. A lot will depend on the match between these two players. NikiforosFokas (Achaemenid Persians) remains unbeaten after 3 matches and can still put in a challenge for the top position. In Division B shadowblack has consolidated his position at the top with another win and it is hard to see where the challenge to him is going to come from. Dortmund has won 2 from 3 looks to be the most likely at this stage. Ironclad (Carthaginians, Hannibal in Italy) is favourite now to win Division C after winning his sixth match in a row. Cunningcairn (Seleucids)is only 4 points behind but has already lost to Ironclad so finishing level on points with Ironclad would not be enough to take the top spot. Ulysisgrunt's (Antigonids) challenge faltered this week with a defeat to XLegione (Macedonians). Three players top Division D with 20 points each but SpeedyCM (Achaemenid Persians) has played one game less than MikeMUC (Indo-Greeks) and Tresantes (Pontics). cromlechi (Seleucids) still has a good shout with 3 wins from 4 and Morbio Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) has just joined the division as a reserve. pbuck777 (Indians) is still looking very secure in Division E after 7 straight wins. His two remaining games are against unbeaten players IMC (Spartans) and KLT1963 (Pyrrhics) and dkalenda (Romans), who has 5 wins from 6, will hope that one of them can cause an upset to open the division up again.

rexhurley (Indo-Greeks) has taken a firm grip on Division A with 6 consecutive wins. shadowblack (Indians) is the closest challenger with 4 wins from 5 and NikiforosFokas (Rhoxolani) is unbeaten in 3. There is a similar situation in Division B where Cunningcairn (Indians) has won 7 out of 8 matches. Only Dortmund (Bosporans) and MikeC_81 (Seleucids) have a mathematical chance of overtaking him and Cunningcairn has to play MikeC_81 in his last match. nyczar (Scots-Irish) has stormed to the top of Division C and now has 7 wins from 7. Hendricus (Seleucids) is in second place with a very creditable record of 6 wins from 8 matches, but the biggest challenger to nyczar is Lognormus (Indians) who has 4 wins from 5 and who still has to play nyczar. At the bottom Brenmusik (Slave Revolt) and Spectre195 (Armenians Tigranes) have yet to play a match which is likely to decide the relegation issue. Division D is by far the slowest division in the tournament but it hasn't stopped paulmcneil (Indians) from completing 8 of his matches and topping the table with 6 wins. Praeter (Romans) is very much in the hunt with 4 wins from 5 and Conaire (Scots-Irish) has won his first 2 games. A very interesting situation is developing in Division E where pbuck777 (Jewish) is still the front runner with 6 wins from 8, but Gwaylare (Pontics), Zolwer (Spanish, Sertorius) and 76mm (Ptolemaics) are within striking distance. Supervark (Ancient British) is in danger of getting the wooden spoon with 6 straight defeats so far.

division A result:

klayeckles indians defeats nikiforosfokas persians 30 to 55

this was a great struggle with the persians taking cover in a large woodland, nullifying the chariots, and weakening the indian cav and elephants. indians were thinking hard about suing for peace, but a couple of persian skirmishers stayed in the open too long and gave the indians a taste for blood. for a long time after that it was an even shooting match, with both sides taking damage, while the indians slowly encircled the woods. as the sun moved lower on the horizon, the indians began to get an edge; when indian troops broke or fragged, the indians sometimes rallied; but the persians had nowhere to hide or rout, and often would just disperse...no big deal, but over an entire match it created a deficit AND some holes--holes the indian javelin men found and started to exploit.

Now the persians were just playing for a stalemate, praying to the sun god to retire quickly... but the sacrifices made went unappreciated by the gods and, with the sun just edging below the horizon, the persians could take no more and the battle was over. GREAT Match, sad to say but the indians pull it off with one turn left!
