Amazingly we seem to have got the nerf on Indians more or less exactly right, as they have gone from an overpowered 71-1-22 pre-nerf, to a balanced 25-4-29 post-nerf.

So the nerf corrected the imbalance without overshooting the mark.

Wish nerfs always worked out so well.

Yes, that worked well. It is quite funny - the Indians were involved in 94 games in Season 1 pre-nerf, but have only been used a further 58 times in 5 seasons since returning. Xmas is well and truly over.

I see klayeckles has got the Indo-Greeks with Indian allies into the QF's of the KO Tournament so they still are very competitive in the right hands.

No, it is very different from the automated tournaments. You arrange your matches with your opponents yourself. In each league section you have to play 9 matches in about 10 weeks at your own pace. I always recommend new players to start off by playing in just 2 sections, so that is 18 games in 10 weeks. Would you like an invitation? I will be sending them out on Monday.

Hi Pete, I'll be new to season 8 and would like to enter two sections, but I have no real preference for any one section. Would you like me to drop 4 options in for each section? I'm happy for you to drop me in wherever the best fit for the numbers in the lower leagues is.. Regards Stew

Classical Antiquity

Instructions

Here is the full army list for the Classical Antiquity league section. There are over 100 armies available to choose from and, initially, players are required to choose 4 of them (from different nations please, so not 3 Carthaginian armies and a Seleucid army, for example). You may choose to use one type of ally with your army which must be nominated now. Notice also the new regulation regarding the “Diadochi nation” of primarily pike armies. Once players have been organised into divisions of 10 based on their playing experience and ability, they will then be allocated one of their four choices. The allocation process will give preference to the lowest rated players (see FOG2DL ratings) in each division. Only very occasionally might a player be asked to make another selection at this stage.

Players will need to have both the base game and the Immortal Fire DLC to enter this section of the tournament.

There are 16 "hoplite" armies available and you may choose just one of these as part of your four overall choices. There are 25 other armies to choose from and players may choose up to 4 of them (provided they are from different nations, so not 3 Achaemenid Persian or 2 Egyptian armies, for example). You may choose to use one type of ally with your army which must be nominated now. Please be sure to go in-game to check that your army and ally combinations are available. Themed Event

Instructions
This section will have an Avar theme for Season 8.

Matches in this section are played to a tighter schedule and must be prioritised above matches from other sections. A full schedule of matches will be published before the tournament opens on February 1st. Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread. The group stage matches will be completed in the first 5 weeks of the competition, the knock-out matches will be allowed around 18 days for completion in the second half of the season. Unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication.

The format has changed from previous seasons. For this season 12 players will constitute a pool, which will be divided into 4 qualifying groups of 3 players. At the group stage players will play each other in paired games (mirror matches) so the total of individual battles played by each player will be 4. Only the winner of each group will proceed to the knock-out stage, which will consist of semi-finals and final (again using paired games).

Where players finish with the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the points aggregate from the matches between those players will be used to decide the final places in the group table. If this does not separate the players then lots will be drawn to determine which player proceeds to the next stage of the competition.

New players to the FOG2DL will not be initially eligible for this section (this may change later depending on recruitment numbers).

Hi Stockwellpete, another newbie looking for an invite if there's space . Also (and apologies if these are daft questions) is it only the biblical section that requires the TT mod? There's a mention of an Iberian open beta on the spanish lists in Classical Antiquity, where do i get that, is it the same as the current steam open beta?
