A tough and very close fight. Both right wings collapsed - the English and Welsh under a well co-ordinated and uphill attack by a mass of Danish spearmen was an early success but rough ground hampered the spearmen swinging into the English right and they took too long. Meanwhile after an early setback, where the English C-in-C was killed by the very first charge of Baltic foot, English knights and Welsh spearmen slowly ground down the Baltic foot who finally collapsed just in time for the English to turn and defeat the previously successful but weakened Danish spearmen.

A very tense competition - many thanks to Blagrot for a great game.

As for positions, promotions, relegations. Near enough same as week 4. However in Division C a huge game coming up between Keksoid and Garokan. The loser could well have lost the chance for promotion

Aetius39 (Palmyrans) defeats snooky51 (Sassanids) 40-7

The Palmyran right managed to stunt, then largely break, the Sassanid left with a combination of arrows and cavalry. Their left was more pressed, and would have faced serious collapse if the game continued one more turn longer. Luckily enough was routed in the center and right before that happened. Thanks for the game!

Kroche (Scots 1050-1154 w Scots Isles & Highlands 1050-1319(allies) drew with Karvon (Navarrese 1050 – 1154 AD) 4% loss to 15% loss

Match completed the full turns with no contact between the heavy units. Some chasing down of Navarrese skirmishing units and exchange of missile fire caused the only casualties.

Bagatrix with Carthaginian defeated Morat with Lydian by a score of 42-7 thanks for the game

Div B

Morat (Normans/French) beat Chherif (Bretons) 61-43 (Points: 78-43).

Normans left their infantry mostly at home and went full "big men on big horses" against a much better balanced Breton opponent.

The early cavalry exchanges went overwhelmingly in the favour of the Normans (who threw pretty much their whole cavalry force at the Breton horse). Then the Breton foot arrived. Brutal exchanges, horse disrupting and fragmenting, but in the end the mobility of the Normans just allowed them to find enough flanks to carry the day.

Many thanks to Chherif for a great game (and patience when the MP locked me out for three days). Had a couple of fights swung the other way, the Bretons would have carried the day.

The Crusaders were initially stationed on a line of hills with crossbowmen in support. The Germans attempted a flank maneuver to engage the weaker side of the Crusaders and, at the same time, hit the main Crusader defensive line with arrows. The Crusaders, instead of waiting under a deluge of arrows for the attack of the Germans, took the initiative and attacked the adversaries head-on, who, caught off guard, suffered numerous losses despite being stationed in the altitude advantage. At the same time the attack on the flank of the Germans was opposed and repelled by the small but well determined Crusader heavy cavalry supported by some units of crossbowmen. The battle of attrition continues between alternating phases with the Crusaders always in advantage until the final epilogue.
