The bulk of the Austrian victory points came from an early, well timed flank charge in the cavalry clash on the right flank.
Started the disrupts, more flank charges and all out slaughter we all know so well!

Breaking News from the field "Massed Cavalry Charge carries the day for the Germans" Box 1 Round 1 Win GGD = Ian against GGD's Germans 24% (2.4) GGD against Ian's Russian 54% (9.0)

Massed Russian Cavalry formed the majority of their left flank facing massed battle hardened German cavalry. The charge went in from the Russians supported by a fierce artillery barrage and Russian infantry only to be met with devastating counter-charges after some initial Russian success. As the Germans cleared this flank despite continuing intervention by Russian infantry and a continuing artillery barrage from the center hill, dragoons and light cavalry on the Russian right were chased off by German infantry and horse. In the center, despite initial success from German pike against the Russian infantry, Russian cavalry and continuous fire caused some consternation as the German guns feel to a well-timed cavalry attack. Eventually the Russian center, became subdued but not entirely broken before mounting casualties forced the Russian to sue for terms. A well played and hard fought game where Russian causalities could have been much higher thanks to Ian's foresight throughout the game.

Early in the game I described my army as a speedbump. It lived up to it.

The result does not truly reflect how dominant TGM and the British were.

My Swedes lost 29% while beating Oodieboogie who lost 57%, so 8.8 points to me 2.9 points to him.

A forest in front of my left centre allowed me to mass my all foot against just over half of his giving me a very slight advantage while my mostly veteran left wing cavalry destroyed his and then turned into his foot. Some of his left wing foot came through the forest to fall on my flank but his left wing cavalry ran into a line of veterans who broke them and then pursued past his remaining foot. His counterattack came too late to save the centre.

Box 4:

richardbodleyscott (Jacobite Irish 1689-1691): 19% routed

won vs

BrentBJ (Imperial Austrian 1691-1698): 54% routed.

Note that the final Austrian rout % was 54%, not 52%.

BrentBJ, if you watch the final turn again, you will see that the figure changes from 52% to 54% at the end. This is because the initial calculation does not take account of units that rout or disperse as a result of pursuit charges.

The mighty Swede cavalry charged into the edge of a forest to tie up the ever present and pesty dragoons, a daring move that enabled a quick charge on the northern flank and a sweep to the center... basically i was lucky in the initial impacts and dropped the russians

TheGrumpyDoge - Swedish 1680-1696 13%
Cromlechi - Russian 1645-1698 40%

Thanks Crom and the rest of group 2, i am learning heaps

Fair to say another frustrating game watching your attacks punch holes n enemy lines only to be undone by flank charges caused by pursuers catching you as the chase routers fleeing towards the ENEMY side of the table, of Infantry being able to pin cav in a ZOC but then being unable to hit the enemy cav sitting with their sides or back to them .... mutter, mutter

A black cat crossed my path twice. while that could be called very bad luck, it was just plain bad management on my behalf.

Win Pantherboy Swedish 0% GGD Imperialist 46%

Win Pantherboy Imperialist 10% GGD Swedish 32% (surrendered)

What can you say Pantherboy shot, then charged GGD wet his pants and his line collapsed

youngr (Swedes) lost vs TheGrayMouser (Russians)

Swedes lost 61%, Russians lost 30%

youngr = 3.0
TGM = 9.1

The impact of the Swedes didn't work at all and were ground down by the Russians

Despite wet pants , who am I to disappoint the appreciative Thespian audience!

An ode to Pantherboy's winning ways entitled "The cat always comes back" apologies to Laurie Berkner

Old GG Dee had troubles of his own
He had a black cat that wouldn't let him win;
He tried and he tried to play the cat's way,
He asked advice of players' far, far away.
But the cat won again the very next day,
Oh the cat won again, I knew I was a goner
But the cat won again; I just couldn't win on the day.
On any day, victory is far far away, yea, yea, yea...

A real nail biter.
I broke his center while slowly losing on my left. On my right I swung my cavalry round and maneuvered to attack his cavalry on his left rear. The massed attack went in and after a couple of bounds of melee I had almost no mounted left. Fortunately I could move my pike in the center to either flank and grind him down.
Thank you for a really good game that could have gone either way right to the end.

Brent

Delayed news from the field (Sorry Seaport :oops:) "Spanish confused as French Apocalyptic cavalry charge home " Win to GGD's French 13% vs Seaport's Spanish 40%

Facing massed veteran French cavalry on the Spanish left, the Spanish horse advanced then retired to a ridge to their rear as the French charge was delivered home. At the same time, artillery opened up and shot was exchanged in the centre that created disorder on both sides. The French remained stationary on and around the central hill. The Spanish also remained stationary facing them on a ridge protected to the front by rough ground. Clearly, a frontal assault would have be devastating for either side so an extended firestorm ensued! On the Spanish far right, Spanish cavalry and infantry tried to out flank the French left. This was met by French pike and shot, and veteran cavalry. Eventually, the French secured this flank and began pushing back the Spanish, while the Spanish left was finally taken by the French. Eventually, clearing a small wood, the French cavalry swung into the right center of the Spanish. The Spanish unable to maintain a line with mounting casualties sued for peace and the day was won for the French. (Just)

Postscript :- Spanish infantry were heard muttering in camp that night about the turn around of the cavalry commander's advance and the cowardice of the Spanish horse. Some blaming the Generalissimo's confused orders to the cavalry, some blaming the incompetence of the cavalry commander, while others blamed the young officer, who was entrusted with the orders to advance in the direction of the hill, mistaking the hill! Later, his distant grandson was ensconced in a similar controversy at a place called Balaclava!
