Trying to neutralise the Scotch threat, eh Alasdair?
Actually, I'd be willing if citizen Montrose (oops, Masefield) could make it in time for an early start..

Stephen Stead and I are travelling together, so we are likely to arrive together. The problem for me is that I'm still fairly new to the rules (2nd tournament) so I'm still making lots of mistakes and playing slowly. I am yet to complete a game in the time available! I'll be pleased to finish above halfway and really chuffed if I end in the top 6. Fortunately, my army is a simple one. Which is really why I chose it - not too much to learn.
Can my opponents please point it out if I'm playing too slowly; wouldn't want to deny anyone a result through inexperience.

Me thinks Mr Briggs is playing the "lull everyone onto a false sense of security" card!!!
His Swiss is small, compact, fast and deadly! If you look at his one tournament he didn't "win" any games but he didn't "lose" any games either and scored between 11 and 13 points in every game!!
However, that competition was a themed pre 1572 competition. In an open against a full range of shooty and some heavily horsey armies he may struggle. As someone who lost to him at Roll Call, he isn't that slow - he doesn't have many units to move and being a great FOGAM player he knows the rules pretty well.
He's a bit like a polar bear - looks nice and cuddly but approach with care!!!
Good luck Graham!

Nice to be punted as a possible 2nd or 3rd but my rush into the dark with the Sudanese does not look such a good choice as I peruse the runners and riders.

Not sure I have ever seen Graham wearing one colour, let alone all white
I suspect he has picked Swiss to match his clothing.

You're assuming I'll be wearing clothing.
It was them, Aztecs, New Spain, or French. I guess D'Artagnan and chums could have been viable but I don't really have enough foot painted up - plus there are a few too many troop types for me to co-ordinate. And I had great fun with the Swiss last time out.

It looks like I might be joining in to even up the numbers.
My best option for an army is a pre 1577 Hugnenot French army.
If anyone can suggest a possible list or three I would much appreciate it. So far I have played a total of one whole game of FoG:R and really have no idea what I am doing.

Well, it appears the venue will not be opening until friday 10 am ish. This was done to keep costs down
There are a number of contingency plans that we could put into place if people still want games.
Is anyone still interested in Thursday or Friday games? I can be around Thursday pm and I suppose some of those travelling from abroad will be as well. There is a local games venue with plenty of space but it is a few (maybe 6) miles away. Or we can just go to the pub and drink 1 or 2 beers.

HI ALL,
Just a quick one on this if you require a gaming room for all day Thursday for gaming in, then we can offer you the EAST MANCHESTER HISTORICAL GAMES CLUB ROOM HQ at Hyde.
Which is round about 20 to 25mins away from UMIST by car or 15mins by train and a 08/10mins walk to the venue from the train station?
Have a look at web site which as a map on it please
www.emhg.co.uk
Let me know by MP or e-mail
colin.ceasefire@virgin.net me, if you require this to be done for you please we have room for round about 15+ 6ft by 4ft tables.
If you are coming by car please be aware that we have only room for round about 6 cars on the drive in front of the building.
