One of my all time favorites from the earlier days as well. I think my first computer wargame was a Civil War game from the early 1990s. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it. I'm tempted to say "Blue and Gray" but I'm not 100%.
Probably this one: http://www.old-games.com/download/5107/ ... e-gray-the

1979 Air-Sea Battle on the old Atari 2600. My neighbor got this and we played every game on it!

In terms of this sort of Wargame (hex based), the first I played was Panzer General Forever.

Before that I played Combat Mission 3, and Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943.

I don't know if you consider Total War series a true wargame, but I play most of the series, starting with RTW.

Il-2 Sturmovik was the first I played along with Panzer General 2 and Panzer General 3d Assault. They were Dad's games. My brother got caught up in first person shooter and my dad is often too busy or tired to play with me and we don't have internet at the house. I love the PBEM for this game. I am just not good as I have had a lack of human opponents.

Red Storm Rising on DOS 3.1 CGA graphics. Next game was Red Alert, many years later. Then Civ 2. And that was it for me, everything else came after including PG.

Loved HalfLife! I started with Medieval Total War and played the heck out of it, but not the rest of the series. Required too much horsepower. I am planning on building a new desktop soon.

Let me ask you a question. Did HalfLife have any replayability once you learned the moves?

Actually, the first computer wargame I played was MicroProse's "FALCON 4.0", the-F16 simulation back in the late 1990's. However, back in ancient times, ( I am 66 after all...), I began with Avalon HIll's TACTICS II. I loved hex-based wargames and then continued with D-Day, Blitzkrieg, Midway, Afrika Corps, Gettysburg, Bismarck, and a few others. I played through the late 1960's and into the 70's but then sort of moved on to different things. I have just now rekindled my interest in this genre by finding out about Panzer Corps here on the net. I ordered the base game and it should be arriving in a few days, I cannot wait to start !! I'm planning to get the Afrika Corps variant as well as all the GC's. See you on the battlefield....

I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield.
This is a very fun game and I am sure you will enjoy it very much.
Let me know if you ever would like a challenge on the mp maps.
I love helping show people the ropes.

Panzer General too.
Then came War in Russia and Pacific War for some years,

Would be interesting to see how a year-2015-Computer AI would handle these games.

My first war game I played was Stratego with my brother.
Then I played Combat on the Atari, again against my brother.
But the first real turn based strategy game I remember playing was Super Conflict on the NES.

Maybe that is why I am such a huge fan of Panzer Corps, because I love the easy to play hard to master games like these.

I agree with you on this-easy to play/hard to master. That's why I also really enjoy chess..
