I did this before reading the forum and seeing the update. The game didn't force the update so I used the old method... which is a shame, because for once, most unusally, I won initiative! :(

gudin (47/56) W

vs.

Morbio (66/66)

managed to win one. Very interesting game though. I thought the pikes would do better than they did

Based on the above results, here are the match ups for round 2:

1. Batesmotel vs. Morbio
2. Deeter vs. Kilroy
3. TheGreyMouser vs. Gudin
4. Blathergut vs. Grumblefish

The first named should issue challenges. Those being challenged that have non-pike armies may choose a pike army if it's different from the challengers'.

Gentlemen, start your engines and good luck!

Do non-pike army players need to choose their pike army before the challenge is issued? Seems like that would be fair so those opposing them have some idea what army they are facing.

Sounds reasonable. Any non-pike players wish to switch armies, please post your choices now before challenges are issued.

LOL, I'd've done better coming 8th rather than 5th in the 1st round... a strange seeding system

I'll stick with my Carthaginians, I have a cunning plan

I'll stick with Later Spartans, given my success with them.

I suppose it is a strange seeding system. Never done one of these before, so I'm not sure of a better way to proceed. I am open to suggestions. Would it be better to have the top finisher fight the second finisher, etc.?

Please don't misunderstand, I'll happily fight anyone... nothing is at stake except pride... and that has long gone

I was expecting something more like a tennis seeding system whereby, using the quarter finals as an example, the 1st seed (or whoever beat him) will play the 8th seed (or whoever beat him), 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th, 4th vs 5th. That way there is an incentive (and arguably a reward) for achieving a higher ranking in the preceeding events.

So Batesmotel, the best performer of the ranking tournament would be expected to play the player who scored the least points and is thus benefits from his great form in the 1st part. Although he gets to play me which might well prove to be just as easy

Like I said earlier, it's only fun so I'm happy with the way the opponents have been assigned :)

Hmmm...should I launch another tourney in the future, I'll go the tennis-seeding route. I would do that now but I see some of our more blood-thirsty generals already going at it.

By all means launch another tourney, but not because of this, just because they are fun!

Seriously, I'm cool with the draw as is and am merely awaiting BatesMotel's challenge (I think he's a bit frightened to post it, but no doubt in time he'll find the courage ;)

Managed to squeak by TheGrayMouser.

gudin 47/56
v
TheGrayMouser 62/62

We agreed that protected hoplites are borderline useless. Luckily for me, I didn't have any.

Round 2 results:

Deeter(Ipsos Alliance) 32/59 vs. Kilroy(Seleucids) 55/54

A very intersting battle fought on the flats. Action was intense all along the front with a mass cavalry battle on one flank and an Ipsos delaying action on the other. The Seleucid phalanx broke first however, ending the game. A valiant effort by Kilroy was partially thrawed by some hot Ipsos dice rolling.

Any other results to post?
