Round 3 (318 BC): Map II attack declarations
Posted: Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:26 pm
by kronenblatt
- Aetius39 (C-in-C killed): September 6
- Geffalrus: September 7
- Rosedelio: September 8
- tyronec: September 9
Please note that:
- Please feel free to post your attack declaration before the date above as well, but not after.
- Attack declarations are posted in the campaign thread.
- Please express attack declarations in the way the following example shows (i.e., specifying both which player you attack, with which army (including any allies), and the attacker and defender satrapies):
- rbodleyscott attacks kronenblatt using army of Gedrosia and Indian 500 BC - 319 AD allies. Attacker satrapy Babylonia, defender satrapy Mesopotamia.
- Date (midnight CET+1 (Pella) time) above indicates deadline, after which opportunity for you to declare attack is forfeited and the player next in line may declare his attack.
- Once you have declared an attack, please PM the player next in line, who will then be free to declare his attack, up to his deadline, so we all don't need to wait for each player's deadline.
- Rules are found in the third post of the campaign thread.
- The map and province information in the second post of the campaign thread is also useful.
In case any of you have any questions (which I'm sure you have, no problems

), please post them in the campaign thread in order for everyone else to see the question as well as the answer.

Guess I'm still a little confused about what does and does not constitute a War for purposes to determining who gains satrapies in the case of a draw. Does proximity play a part? Last round, was the war between all four of us because we had a perfect spiral of attacks?

No, an extended War is only due to an overlap of satrapies-at-stake. And then the War would involve more satrapies and potentially but not necessarily more players. In your case, there wasn’t any such overlap (i.e., Rosedelio attacked Media from Atropatene but there were no further attacks involving any of these two satrapies), why the only two participants in that War were Rosedelio and you.

Gotcha! Okay, so satrapies can be gained by a victorious player, if they have the lowest amount of satrapies, if there are any draws? Proximity to the satrapies at stake in the drawn battles is not necessary?

No, the opposite. That is, the player doesn’t have to be victorious in his own War(s), but he needs to neighbour at least one of the satrapies-at-stake and not be part of that War. And if there is more than one such player (which there wasn’t in this case), the satrapies would go to the player with the fewest satrapies.
From the rules
“
If there are no victors from any battles in a War at all, i.e., only draws, all the satrapies-at-stake of the War will instead be gained by the one player (if any) not involved in the War and neighbouring any of the satrapies-at-stake of the War, with the fewest controlled satrapies (at the start of the round).”

Setting up the battles
- Battles are fought using the Dividing the Spoils v4 module and the armies therein.
- The defender creates the challenge (with himself always as Side B) and thereafter sends a PM to the attacker and makes a post in this thread.
- Module: Dividing the Spoils v4 (click Select another module).
- Armies:
- The attacker uses the army that he specified in his attack declaration.
- The defender uses the army of the defender satrapy, plus any available allies.
- Scenario: Custom Battle - Open Battle.
- Force size: Large (1600 FP).
- Map type: from defender satrapy's available terrains as agreed between the players, otherwise defender satrapy's fallback (see table below).
- No map re-rolls are allowed.
- No use of Heavy Artillery is allowed.
Resolving and reporting the battles
- Players undertake to concluding their battles within five weeks, i.e., by October 10 at the latest.
- The defender reports the outcome of concluded battles in this thread, specifying who won (if any), the casualties, and if any C-in-C's fell during the battle (important since it matters for when tournament will end).
- Example: Aetius39 beat kronenblatt 48-21, with Aetius 39s C-in-C killed in battle.

I think you need to redo the matches as you set the defender army as Aigyptos instead of Mesopotamia and Media.

It seems fine.
'The defender creates the challenge (with himself always as Side B) and thereafter sends a PM to the attacker and makes a post in this thread.'
I don't think this is correct, when you set up a MP game Side A is for your army and Side B is the enemy army, or am I missing something ?
On another note, how come we are fighting on the seaside when Mesopatania is landlocked - or if it is a freshwater lake beside the desert. The things this game gets wrong...

You can decide when setting up a MP game, whether you're side A or side B (it says "
Pick Side A Army" and "
Pick Side B Army"), with you specifying your army as "
Side B Army" and the enemy's as "
Side A Army". Then, after having pressed "
Create", you select "
Side B" as "
Player Side" before entering password and finally pressing "
Create" again.
I'm asking for players to set up the challenge as "
Side B" because as soon the other player accepts the challenge, he immediately gets it in his folder (saving time, since he by definition is logged in and can then immediately start deploying) instead of in the folder of the player having set up the challenge (who may then be offline).

No, it's incorrect since "
... the defender uses the army of the defender satrapy..." which in your case in these two games is
Mesopotamia and
Media, respectively, and not Aigyptos.
Geffalrus attacks
tyronec using the army of Armenia. Attacker satrapy Armenia, defender satrapy
Mesopotamia.
Rosedelio attacks
tyronec using the army of Hyrkania. Attacker satrapy Hyrkania, defender satrapy
Media.

Luckily for you, you're really good at playing the game itself and not at setting up the game.
