2b. Raid: Geffalrus (Sassanids, 1600 FP) versus kronenblatt (Romans V, 1600 FP) in Arabia (XXVI. Desert.

Geffalrus: Which main army and allies will you be bringing?

"The army of the Sassanids is based upon the Sassanid Persian 224-349 AD army, with the option for each battle to bring Armenians (Armenian 253-476 AD) as allies or to use the Armenians as main army with Sassanids as allies."

3a. Conquest: Aetius39 (Romans IV, 1600 FP) versus Geffalrus (Romans III, 1575 FP) in Galatia (XX). Middle-Eastern Agricultural.

Match is set and password is "galatia"

My defending Romans are using Gothic allies this time around. No one tell Stewicus.

Sassanids emerge victorious with a score of 48 to 22. Various sorts of horse archers engaged the Roman auxiliaries on the left holding a rough hill that, after many arrows were expended, ended up being a local draw. The decisive action all happened on the Roman right, where a veritable tsunami of cataphracts washed away the Roman legionary foot and their supporting Palmyran auxiliaries, despite the most valorous last stand by a fragmented veteran legion that held firm against 3 units of heavy horse for many turns. The Palmyran cataphracts gave a good account of themselves, but were sadly not numerous enough to hold back the Persian horde.

GG as always to kro. :)

Yes, many thanks for fun (yet frustrating) battle! :)

Arabia (XXVI) is now 'Lost to The Empire' and as such not controllable by any Roman faction. And its controlling Roman faction (kronenblatt) suffers a 50 FP penalty going forward.

Conquest: Aetius39 attacks Geffalrus in Galatia (XX) from Lycia et Cilicia (XXII).

Aetius defeats Geffalrus due to C-in-C falling in battle!

This was indeed divine intervention, Jupiter frowning as his favored Romans were getting beat this way and that. GG and sorry for Geffalrus, as he was on the verge of handily beating my army.

Ah, what a dramatic outcome! :) That'll be four (!) provinces changing hands.

Rumor has it that a more mundane explanation for the Emperor dying during a victorious melee is available. At the time of the fight, the Emperor was in the midst of what he thought were loyal Gothic foederati. Alas, these chosen swords were merely playing a part. A year earlier, these Goths had been brought into the Roman army after a catastrophic defeat at the hands of the emperor and his Iazygid allies. Grudges die hard, and these - 47 Ronin - had sworn to avenge their lord who had died on the battlefield. At the height of his triumph, the emperor was struck down by these traitorous hands and the battle was lost in an instant. Chaos grips the Pannonian legions as vicious reprisals against the Gothic foederati are enacted.

You’re sure it wasn’t Treacherous Betrayus or one of his descendants? He’s known for doing that type of backstabbing, not to avenge anyone but to promote himself.

1b. Raid: Stew101 (Sassanids, 1600 FP) versus Aetius39 (Romans IV, 1600 FP) in Phoenicia (XXV). Middle-Eastern Agricultural.

Not too many turns left in this game.

3b. Raid: Aetius39 (Alamans, 1600 FP) versus Stew101 (Romans I, 1600 FP) in Agri Decumates (VI)(X). North European Agricultural.

Stew (Romans) defeats Aetius (Alamans) as Alaman C-in-C fell! Score was 14-18 in Alaman army favor.

The lines clashed, and both armies were fighting it out, but unbeknownst to the Alamans, a certain Roman centurion gave gold to a few of the 'loyal' headmen, who struck their Commander in the midst of battle. GG!

4a. Conquest: kronenblatt (Romans V, 1600 FP) versus Aetius39 (Romans IV, 1600 FP) in Phoenicia (XXV). Middle-Eastern Agricultural.

Aetius (Romans IV) defeats kronenblatt (Romans V) 60-34

Roman IV dominated on the sides, while Roman V smashed through the middle, although some rear cavalry attacks on the right ultimately made the difference at last. GG as always!

Geffalrus (Romans III) attacking Stew101 (Romans 1) in Italia. We've finally reached the line contact portion of the battle, so hopefully should be seeing some serious melee soon. Been 12ish turns of maneuver so far. We both had defensive positions we didn't want to completely abandon.

Not with me and Aetius, apparently. We pretty consistently charge toward each other with minimal hesitation.
