The Scots got the short end of the stick, only 1 win, while the Welsh carried the other 4. Interesting as I thought it would be more even, or possibly in the Scots' favor depending on terrain. They seemed to have the better line infantry. Any thoughts?
I think the Scots were the better army because their extra superior infantry are better value than the Welsh cavalry.
In my battle I tried to get around the flank with the Cavalry but it was too difficult and think I got just one flank charge from them when it was too late to matter anyway. What swung the battle was my crappy infantry doing a bit better than his crappy infantry.
Maybe if you had smaller armies and an open map the cavalry would earn their points.

Do we get team 6 next round, have played the other two ?

I will post the new round up tomorrow, as it's late here.

I also expected the Welsh to be the weaker side which is why (as the weaker player of our partnership) I picked them. The Cavalry did make a big difference in my game.

the scot infantry advantage wasn't significant enough in our match and the medium foot can hold really well at times. I was forced to divert quite a few units to keep the cav at bay and eventually ran out of units to hold then off. Cav was the big difference to me - maybe even the threat of them getting round the back was enough.

ROUND 4 - Viking Invasion of Wessex: Battle of Ashdown

The Vikings have not been too nice to the Anglo-Saxons; they have taken most of England, and now threaten to conquer Wessex as well. Can the Last Kingdom hold off the invaders, and maybe even inflict a devastating defeat?

Armies: Anglo-Saxon 871-949 AD vs Vikings 790-899 AD

Team 4 vs. Team 10
kronenblatt (Vikings) vs. devoncop (Anglo-Saxons)
Stew (Vikings) vs. Aetius39 (Anglo-Saxons)

Team 3 vs. Team 6
Holien (Vikings) vs. tyronec (Anglo-Saxons)
random27 (Vikings) vs. carpenkm (Anglo-Saxons)

The above teams are fighting each other Round 3. Please talk to your partner and decide which army each of you will take, and then pm me your choice. Only 1 person from the team has to pm me. As soon as both teams matched against each other send me their choices, I will post them and you can start the battle!

The Anglo-Saxon player will set up the game:

Large/Wide (1600)
Map is Northern European Hilly
Open battle
No allies for either side.
There is no re-rolling of the map.

tyronec (Anglo-Saxons) defeats Holien (Vikings) 47-9
Score 98-9

The Angles had the advantage of a hill which proved too much for the invaders.
Thanks for the game.

Carpenkm beat Random27 46-15

Another win for the Saxons. The shield walls met, but superior numbers proved decisive. Good match.

Aetius (Anglo-Saxons) defeats Stew (Vikings) 66-52

There was a long hill in the middle of the map, and most of the fighting took place on and around the sides of it. An old-fashioned shieldwall battle, with a lot of flanks and autobreaks on both sides. In the end, the Anglo-Saxon left held longer than the Vikings', and prevailed. Tough fight, and gg Stew!

Aetius - 74 points

Stew - 52 points

Round 4 is finished, and the Anglo-Saxons swept the Vikings 4-0. I expected it to be more even, as the Vikings had better front line troops (superior and armored), but terrain probably had something to do with at least a few of the games. Anyway, congrats to the Anglo-Saxons :)

Hi as suspected we did not make the cut and I was hoping Tyronec and Random might have got through but I guess we both nailed one another.

So I will be cheering on the blues and two's... Neee Naaa

Go to it lads...

Thanks for running the tournament and it gave some great fights.

Cheers

ROUND 5 - Viking Power Broken in Ireland: Battle of Clontarf

The Vikings have had a presence in Ireland for quite some time now, but many of the Irish are sick of the yoke, and hope
to break free. Is there a man brave enough to lead the Irish into throwing the Vikings back across the see, or will the Vikings stay and the island be renamed 'New Sweden'?

Armies: Irish 900-1049 AD vs Vikings (Ireland) 900-1049 AD

Team 4 vs. Team 10
Aetius and kronenblatt
devoncop and Stew

The Irish player will set up the game:

Large/Wide (1600)
Map is Northern European Agriculture OR Northern European Wooded (player setting up chooses)
Open battle
No allies for either side.
There is no re-rolling of the map.
