Weekly round-up
harveylh (Arab) still leads Division A although Snugglebunnies (Median) moved close with his second win. XLegione (Lydian) has also started well with consecutive victories. Division B looks like being a wide open contest. markwatson360 (Aetolian) is top with 3 wins from 5 matches, but he is likely to come under pressure from batesmotel (Kyrenean Greek) and nyczar (Spartan), who have both started with 2 wins, as well as pompeytheflatulent (Median), who has 2 wins from 3. baldrick52 (Kyrenean Greek) currently leads Division C with just one match to complete, but he is likely to be overtaken by edb1815 (Cypriot), lunecastle (Babylonian) and possibly Hyde77 (Spartan), all of whom have a number of games in hand. At the bottom of the table kerrak (Assyrian) is still looking for his first points of the campaign.
Unbeaten runs of 3 matches or more
harveylh (Division A) 3 matches
Snugglebunnies (Division A) 3 matches
baldrick52 (Division C) 3 matches
lunecastle (Division C) 3 matches
Match completion rate (45 matches in total to be played in each division)
Division A - 11 out of 45 matches completed
Division B - 14 out of 45 matches completed
Division C - 22 out of 45 matches completed
Division A is a bit slow, the other two divisions have good match completion rates.
Player of the week
markwatson360 (Division B) and Hyde77 (Division C) with 2 wins each this week.

Division C
Ulysisgrunt (Antigonid) defeated cromlechi (Egyptian) 60-58.
The score gives a good indication of how close the game was... cromlechi was superb at swarming pike blocks with poor quality defensive spearmen and overwhelming them!
(3-1)

by Geffalrus
Division A
Geffalrus (Macedonians) defeats rbodleyscott (Carthaginian) 44-6
Furious over their defeat-by-a-thousand-arrow-pinpricks at the hands of the Persians, the Macedonians decided that the Carthaginians MUST PAY. No skirmishing, no fancy maneuvers - only RAW POWER would suffice. Every single possible pike unit was summoned, with smaller contingents of hoplites and cavalry in support. The army's light troops were given only a single round of ammunition, and were subsequently instructed that they must close to melee, no matter the odds. They charged the mass of Punic skirmishers, followed closely by the intimidating pike wall. Their prayers to Ares were answered, as the Punic skirmishers rolled terribly on the evasion attempts, and were repeatedly caught and rear charged before they could unleash most of their missiles. The mercenary warbands furiously backpedaled in the face of the onrushing phalanx, while the Scutari attempted a wide march around the Macedonian flanks. But the Macedonian pikes would not be denied, and rolled over noble horse, elephants, and half the warbands like a tide of hate. The flanking scutari eventually arrived with the rest of the Gallic horse, but not before the Macedonians had time to about face half the phalanx and invite the Celtiberians to impale themselves on their sarissas.
Good game to my opponent.
Final positions on the blood-soaked field.

Division C
SawyerK (Kindom of Soissons) defeated Bluefin (Hunnic) by 58 to 31.
The Huns took a quick 16-0 lead though charges by their noble lancers but the Kingdom was able to draw equal when their troops launched multiple flank attacks on the lancers. When the Huns lost a few more lancers to direct/indirect attacks, the warbands were able to take control of the battlefield and earn the win.

Division B
Schweetness101 - Andalusian 756-1049AD defeats GDod - Polish 966-1057AD with Viking allies 900-1049AD 56 - 31
This battle was a nice classic match-up with a big long battle line where Muslim and Polish/Viking spears had at one another turn after turn in a slow grind. Neither side really attempted any risky or wild maneuvers. The Andalusians were able to clear some of the massed archers out of the rough ground on the Polish right using Muslim Irregulars, and distract many of the rest of them with light cavalry. They also successfully neutralized most of the elite Viking Huscarls using lancers to ZoC lock them (until the very end once the huscarls were deprived of their support and vulnerable to flanking). This gave the Andalusians a moderate net advantage in the overall melee where the Veteran Muslim Spears had at the cheaper Shieldwalls and gradually eroded them. Both sides racked up the casualties, but being unable to make much use of their most elite infantry or massed archer advantage, the Polish simply received more casualties in the melee until the delta reached 25%.
see a picture of the final shot here where only the surrounded Huscarls and some scattered massed archers remain of the Polish line:
