guille1434 wrote::-) You are being too harsh with the crticism to your work... The Kugelblitz has "the look" all right, at this moment I cannot figure how to make it look better... But I will try. Those two units fill some gaps in the very late war German unit roster!
Thanks for sharing, pal! :-)
My pleasure.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, the Kugelblitz is probably the best of the "unfinished" units I have lying around - as you can see, I'm kinda reluctant to release stuff I'm not entirely happy with anyway, and I figured this one was at least ok'ish.

Most icons actually ARE unfinished - usually, there might be only one side view in the top row partially done. But I'll try to finish up a couple of the icons which are for units not yet accounted for.
I think it's a bit of a waste releasing a new PzIV icon or an icon for which I feel there's already a better, perfectly good icon in the wild.
It's great people like you or asuser or lately phcas are making units that look totally vanilla, because I don't really like to be my units being a mess of different styles, nor am I really fond of the "quietschbunt" look DMP always uses.
Some of Puma's and churchlakecity's icons were pretty cool, but again, most of them didn't blend in with the vanilla icons very well.
Which is also what many of my unreleased units are guilty of. So, yeah, I AM pretty harsh with criticizing my own work - if I criticize other folks stuff, I feel it would be kinda silly to give myself a free pass.

The Kugelblitz looks great enough for me to add it. Unlike the overpowered E-50 Falke AA tank, the Kugel will be a much cheaper upgrade for Wirbel- and Ostwind tanks thanks to sharing their chassis.
What usually often misses from creators is a desired alternative mode, like the AT mode for AA units, or a desert/SE color variant - that's what Mr. Guille here is for!

You have to see the number of the icons I have in the "In Proccess" folder (the folder for unifinished icons)...

I am not fond of the DMP multicolored icon style either... I am not meaning they are not good, but they don't blend well with the stock game icons... And some of the aircraft don't look good in my opinion. I like to make icons that can be aaded to the ones present in game and look resonable "at home", so to speak.

Horst: The Kugelblitz, of course, will be the subject of one of the "multipurpose units icon pack" with AA, AT, SE, SS versions...

By the way, I have not forgotten the units wishlist you gave me... :-)

Yeah, no problem with whatever style if you manage to create models and textures for all them in the game. Too different styles mixed just make anything look out of place somehow.
It's the same with the bigunits portraits of units. After adding so many new units that lack the 3d-portraits, you don't have much choice to either create own, what I can't, use wrong original ones or use photos. I chose the better looking photos to add more hardcore flair, but after a while it looks too clashing with the original portraits again and leaves you no choice but to search the web for photos for the rest of the thousand other vanilla units. Oh well, I'm almost close to the end of my silly photo-replacement endeavour. Until I've finished with that, I won't really add any new units, so you can take your time, Guille! :P

Yes, the big portraits... It is a good idea to replace them with good period photographs, but a little work intensive! :-)

By BiteNibbleChomp suggestion I will post here.
I am looking for some unit icons (actually quite a lot :P ). I don´t know if someone is interested to fulfill my request, we are talking of tanks, artillery, etc. Anyone?

Hi Akkula! I already read your post... I have some soviet units in my "to do" list... One of them is showed here, may be you like it. Feel free to upload here a list and will see what can be done, if you like!

Fullfilling one of Agustin Malar requests, and also one seconded by Horst, here is a Soviet unit: A maxim Machine Gun Squad. I hope you all like it! :-)
(oh, yes, there is more to come)

Wow, amazing maxim gun squad, I´m grabbing right now :D !
Ok, here goes the list. I know is too pretentious but I am starting to work on a project (very long) about the eastern front and I want to offer the best quality possible:

Soviet Union
- T-43
- IS-3
- OT-34
- OT-34-85
- KV-13
- IS-122
- PT1 T-34/76
- SU-100Y
- SU-14
- ZiS-30
- Soviet Marines
- Soviet Partisans
- AT Infantry squad
- Shock Troops
- Guards Infantry
- Katyusha BM-8-24 (Mounted on T-40)

Finland:
- T-37
- BT-5
- T-26
- OT-130
- Vickers 6 Ton
- BA-10
- D-8

For the german side I will not ask as already there´s A LOT of material  . The list goes on but I dont want to bother you with so much!

Best regards.
Horacio.

Quite an interesting list... Some of those units have already been uploaded. Here I attach a .rar file with the IS-3 heavy tank in a bunch of schemes. I think is a very good icon.

Two questions (for now): What is the concept you thought for the Schock troops? Any suggestions to make an icon for that unit?
What would make the Soviet Marines different from infantry stats wise (besides the visual aspect of a different icon of course)?

Hi Agustin! I am glad you liked that unit! :-) Thanks for the nice words...

Another Soviet infantry class unit that got a revision... I uploade it before but I was not very satisfied with the prone figure. Here is the new version of the Soviet AT Rifle squad.

Cheers!

Thanks for the IS-3, it´s part of your pack, I already have it. Beautiful work there.

Regarding the shock troops I was thinking of soldiers armed with PPsh only, in great numbers (maybe 4 or 5 per icon).

Akkula: Thanks for giving the idea behind the shock troops... That makes my job easier. Here is an icon for thet unit: Four figures (representing very numerous infantry formations) with troops armed with PPSH sub-machine guns and one soldier that is throwing a greande. Do you think it is Ok?

Also, another request fullfilled: The Slovak Maxim HMG squad, in ground to ground and AA modes... Enjoy!
EDIT: I made a new icon for the Slovak HMG squad, which I uploaded here. The old one was used as a base for a Slovak HW infantry, which was a unit that was lacking (see below). :-)

Hey guille, I have ripped a couple of the units Akkula requested from World of Tanks - maybe you want to use those as a foundation if you decide to make icons for those.
But don't forget the Kätzchen, ok?

Rezaf: Thanks for the hard work! I am sure I will be able to use something from those images... But, I have learned to take the stuff from "World of Tanks" with a grain of salt... For me, sometimes they cross the "What if unit" line to the "Flight of fancy" units... For example: I was reseraching about the T-43 (which I only thought it was an erroneous designation given by the Germans to the T-34/85), but indeed there was a T-43 prototype, which basically was a new hull based on the T-34 shape, but with stronger armor and a new suspension system, mated with a new turret (which will reappear on the T-34/85), but with the same 76 mm gun as the T-34/76... The WoT icon, clearly shows a bigger gun than 76 mm, so is not correct... The IS-122 is not the JS-2 in prototype form? On the other hand the SU-100Y looks fantastic! About the KV-13 and both SU-14 self propelled guns I have to make some research.

By the way, here is the base icon I was working on for the T-43 unit. By the way, that tank was not accepted for service because it had lesser mobility than the T-34, and it was realized that what was really needed against the new German tanks was a better gun, not better armor, and certainly not inferior mobility.

...Aaand, oh yes, the Katzchen is not forgotten, I started pouring in Soviet units, because I have some of them already done, which required only a small modification work to suit the bill. You will see news about thei unit very soon!

Thanks again a lot for the help! :-)

Well, I understand your reluctance, WoT definately takes some liberties - and I think that's ok, it's not a history simulation.
What IS a bit problematic is that some people have already been editing Wikipedia based on information obtained from the WoT wiki...
If that weren't the case, I might be pointing you to the german wikipedia article about the T-43, which states they fitted the tank with a 85mm gun as well.
I'll point to the book "T-34-85 Medium Tank 1944-94" instead, which you can find on Google books and which states this was indeed the case, and they even redesigned the T-43's turret to accomodate the bigger gun. So the icon is probably not all wrong.
Regardless, I'll probably throw it into the TGA as-is if I ever get to the soviets, because every player is entitled to make up his own mind about how much historical correctness his game is required to have. As you probably have guessed by the SWotL or my request for a Kätzchen, I'm kinda happy with what-if's and paper projects.

Yeah, I also understood the IS-122 is basically the development name of the IS-2. But there was an icon for it, so I figured, what the heck.

No hurry.

Heh, from the sound of it nothing will be particularly useful to you, but that's ok. Wasn't that much work as I had partials lying around in that todo directory we discussed earlier.
