So, it looks to me, although the lines have pushed forwards on both sides, there will be fewer battles than I expected, and in completely different places to where I thought they would be...

No Caen, no Bayeux, no Ouistreham, no Pegasus... at least not this turn... although most of those look setup for big fights next turn... Maybe?

CONFIRMED BATTLES - JUNE 9th

Abbaye d'Ardenne - Ost 411/716 [ARPS] ASD v 8/3Cdn [ATS] (the German unit catches the American by surprise along its route towards Caen)
Benouville - 858/346 [FwPS] AFD v 30/79 [MRS]

POTENTIAL BATTLES - JUNE 9th PM

Abbaye d'Ardenne - Ost 411/716 [ARPS] ME v 27/3 [AS] (if 8/3Cdn loses in AM)
Abbaye d'Ardenne - II/726/716 [PS] ME v 8/3Cdn [ATS] (if Ost 411/716 loses in AM)

27/3's move order is cancelled if 8/3Cdn wins in Abbaye. Cannot end turn with two BGs in Abbaye
II/726/716's move and merge order is still executed if Ost 411/716 wins in Abbaye. However, 27/3's attack would be executed before this.
ie. II/726/716 will only merge into Ost 411/716 in Abbaye, if Ost 411/716 can beat 8/3Cdn (ASD) and 27/3 (ME)

MERGES

Courseulles - 151/50 merges with 5AL/6 - Combined BG becomes 5AL/6 (keeps elite status)

[Bonuses: A=Arty, N=Naval, M=Medic, R=Rally, P=Promote, S=Resupply, Fw=FW190, T=Typhoon]

P-A, Pls would you update our Strat Map... Strengthening of the two lines suggests Big Fireworks to come... delayed from June 9th into June 10th...

Reminder to Commanders (in this case, most likely to the German commander)

If you find that events on the Strat Map have put you in a position where you feel that the tactical battles might be unwinnable... and, as you'll see, 858/346 AFD into Benouville will certainly be challenging, infantry vs armour... and II/726/716 (11 units infantry) vs 27/3 (20 units armour) might be considered by some to be something beyond challenging... feel free to consider:

(i) Assign less units than the max in force selection (to preserve units from risk) and ensure you hold at least 1 VP flag by the end of the battle (to avoid dissolution)
(ii) Negotiated withdrawals (to speedily get us into June 10th, where I suspect we'll see the real clashes)

Good luck to both sides! Abbaye d'Ardenne eh? I never knew you lot were so religious!!

New Battle Maps - Abbaye d'Ardenne

8/3Cdn (Allies) will enter from the NW (top right of the map below)
Ost 411/716 (Germans) will enter from the S (left side of this map)
Both sides will start with one VP flag

Since, the German move order to Abbaye precedes the Allied move order through Abbaye to Caen, the German movement intercepts the Allies. This battle is an ASD (attack vs surprised defence).

Strat commentary for both sides...

Worth noting that if the Allies had won the dice throw and moved first, 8/3Cdn would have got to Caen before Ost 411/716 intercepted them. That's just random luck. However, alternatively, if the Allies had placed 27/3's move to Abbaye before 8/3Cdn's move through Abbaye, 27/3 would have fought in Abbaye as an ME. If the Allies had won that ME, 8/3Cdn could have subsequently passed through Abbaye to reach Caen.

Hope that makes sense? Order prioritisation makes quite a difference to how battles develop... Suspect this will matter much more to the mayhem coming to all of us on June 10th...

New Battle Maps - Benouville

858/346 (Germans) will enter from the NE (bottom right of the map below)
30/79 (Allies) are defending and hold the S (three quarters of the map, from the left edge inwards)
As attackers in an AFD (attack vs fortified defence), Germans begin with 1 VP flag, Allies hold 4.

GM's humble opinion... Benouville is fairly open and looks like a real toughie for a German infantry brigade versus Allied armour... Losing side must hold at least one flag at the end to avoid dissolution (or negotiate a ceasefire without dissolution)... Good luck both! ;-)

In as democratic fashion as I could, I have invited Coreysr and Iprop to each take on one of these first games each.
In with the New World, out with the Old! Jon, how about I'd like to play you on the maps after things get started and our test playing can't interfere.

Hidde and I are waiting in the wings for June 9th PM action options.
Are there any other Allied commanders out there I'm missing?
Monty is back at HQ getting reorganized, so he is sidelined for now.

Either player can start the challenge and post pword for their opponent.
Remember the OOB will list all of your/your enemy's units for the BG's in battle.
Good luck!
