oscarius Samnite 355-272 + Gallic 300-101 allies draws with Karvon Cimmerian 750-600 + Thracian 680-46: 49-44

With my opponent splitting his forces on the left and right hand side of the map I too followed suit, leading to an interesting match where the centre of the map was left abandoned by both armies.

The Cimmerians worked away at shooting up my cavalry while I boxed whatever horse archers I could into traps. A tough match that saw the full 24 turns used up (and both sides still aggressively fighting until the end). I got a good lead in the early game but my opponent began to catch up as long attrition amongst my cavalry from the cat and mouse games caused some to snap. By nightfall we ended with a very slim draw in my favour.

Well-played!

A God forsaken place for men to meet in battle but, by tacit agreement, a battle was fought here nonetheless.

The armies faced each other on either side of the deep stream skirmishing to little effect until a group of the burlier Balts, on our right flank, impetuously muscled their way across the stream. Now being isolated and outnumbered four to one there was nothing for it but to throw more Baltic fuel on the fire and, much to my surprise, they were wildly successful shattering their opponents. The remains of the battle devolved to holding all along the line while the Danish right flank dog piled Saracens one after another until the will to resist left them.

To my opponent salute!

Division B aka Division 2

Chris Townsend's English 1155 defeated Asterix_von_TWC's Argonese 1200 (and their Leonese allies) 49 to 15.

In a mostly featureless map (except for narrowing due to water), the two sides lines basically went straight at it. A combination of luck and a force selection with more knights resulted in the English victory.

Good game!

Chris Townsend

Freedom will ever triumph! Vakarr Thracian (Hellenistic Getae) 329-281 + Thracian (Triballi) 350 BC -46 AD allies defeated the imperialist Asterix_von_TWC Lysimachid 320-281 BC and his traitorous Thracian (Hellenisitic) 350-281 lackeys 50-24. Lysimachus was captured and made to eat off wooden bowls again!

It was, nevertheless, a tough fight where nearly all the Thracian generals gave their lives for the cause. Just one more routing unit and the Thracians would have had to continue the fight. The terrain favoured the Lysimachids, with their left flank being on top of a hill that had a lot of terrain on it. I expected this hill to be covered with the foe so I massed my troops facing the hill, expecting to have to shoot my way onto it. Luckily for me, they were hidden in the woods and behind the hill. That allowed me to get onto the hill virtually unscathed and a huge fight broke out between our large forces of light infantry. Mine had the greater number of mediums backing them up, though the Lysimachid combination of Thracian peltast and Cretan archer light infantry could have been quite potent. I surrounded the Lysimachid lights twice and charged them, but twice they succeeded in running away through the gaps.

The Thracian forces were broken up into three groups and nearly all were hidden at the start. They quickly got behind the Lysimachid left flank and the light troops on the Thracian left flank held off a Lysimachid assault on their wood. Facing the pikes and elephants were some troops hidden behind a long hill but in front of the pikes were the Lysimachid cavalry, which got caught and roughed up. These Thracian troops, knowing that they advanced to their doom, bravely marched off their hill to prevent the pikes and cavalry reaching the flank of the main Thracian force, which had advanced out of the wood on the Thracian right and into the flanks of the Lysimachid pikes, medium foot, and cavalry. It was this flanking force that won the game despite the demise of the troops that came off the hill to protect them.
