Thanks Karis
For what its worth, I tend to agree with you about consolidating the two Japanese factions into one in Operation Olympus
It will take a while though to replace all units of one of the factions and fix objectives and triggers.

Double checking the fighter numbers it turns out I was wrong. I think what was happening was that the list of active units didn't include fighters that were grounded. Which, makes sense actually.

Hello, Erik,
Normandy 1.0
Germans are supposed to get air reinforcements in T3. They get only 12 air CP but the planes don´t spawn. Maybe It is something with "target hex" settings.

The latest version is 1.1. Sure you're not playing an old version?

I wonder if Operation Pedastal might work better as a 2 vs 1, or 1 vs 1 game? In order for the axis to function effectively there needs to be a high degree of coordination between the Italian naval forces and the German air forces, so making the axis a single player rather than two should eliminate that potential roadblock.

It would certainly make it easier if there was only one faction on each side. This goes for the two British factions as well of course.
But... I kind of like 2v1, 2v2 scenarios that strongly suggest the team players should commmunicate for maximum effort.
I'll make the decision after the current game comes to a conclusion.
This scenario test-play was actually a bit premature. Originally, I only wanted to test if I could create a modded scenario challenge and you guys accept the challenge.
Then it kind of turned into beta-testing

Not sure where the problem lies but I'm unable to join the 2 vs 1 Sicily version 3.3 game. I am able to create a game with it, but when I try clicking on the existing one with vonking it's red and I get the "not installed" message. Vaguely seem to remember this sort of thing happening previously.

I've had similar experiences as well. I believe a work-around is to copy the Sicily folder to the official Scenarios folder.

I'll give that a try, thanks. Hmm. Wait I only have the one scenarios folder, as far as I can tell...

Not the My Games etc, but inside the game installation.

Not sure how game installation is... Tried looking for a folder called slitherine and got zilch. I've got a couple other ideas though

On the subject of general WWII stuff, there's a neat little six minute video on the BBC website about the "Night Witches". Here's the link for it.

So having finished the latest version of Operation Olympic, some thoughts. Firstly it's worth pointing out that even though it was labelled a draw, the allies did achieve all their major and minor objectives. Captured everything, didn't lose 3 or more tanks. Not sure what was going on with that. But the point is, this result (and the same result for the other matches even though they aren't completed) illustrates that Japan needs buffing in order for this to be competetive. The trick is making it competitive in a way that's historically accurate, I absolutely agree you can't have a bunch IJN battleships running around or anything like that.
So here's the primary change that I think constitutes a minimum, and yet at the same time is 100 percent historically accurate (and full credit to my partner on the map who suggested it). Make all allied units auxillary. Because of course the allies are far, far more allergic to casualties. Sure they have vastly more resources, I agree keep the effectively unlimited ability to repair. But replace? Nope.
Additional idea, not necessarily needed but probably wise, have Japanese ground units spawn every now and then. Just volunteer fighters, nothing too game breaking and just enough to potentially slow things down. I think it has a place but I'm flexible.
There was talk early in the game of nerfing kamikazes. Bad idea. When one side is underpowered, as demonstrated by the results, further underpowering it doesn't help.
So anyway there you have it. I'm curious what the allied players feel about how the game unfolded. If it seems like the auxillary thing is too much, I'd be willing to play as the allied side and if I can win despite it then the matter ought to be settled.

Hey Karis
The next soon-to-be-ready-for-testing Olympic is built from the ground up.
91x110 map covering only the bottom half of Kyushu island. Better, more detailed map.
Seaborne invasions restricted to beaches/ports (using 'escarpment' hex-sides to block debarking elsewhere).
Scrapped the northern invasion as this didn't work out too well.
There are 3 US factions, one for each major beach landing. Reduced Japanese factions from 2 to a single one.
'All' resources are applied at scenario start (no income). This is similar to the Operation Konrad we're testing.
There are no core units. The order of battle is much improved, especially for the Japanese.
Relatively free Japanese unit deployment. I will probably add spawning Japanese volunteer units whenever the US capture a village/town.
Reinforcements are handled in a much simpler way.
Scrapped the antsy US rocket ships, they mostly served to clutter the map.
I'll stop ranting here

Sounds interesting. The rocket ships are... Those patrol boats with a range of one? All units auxillary is good, I remember what I think was the first version playing as a Japanese side and having hundreds of requisition points but nothing to do with them. Felt a bit unfair the allies weren't under the same restriction. Are there still kamikazes?

The air/naval kamikazes are in. And the Japanese gets plenty of regular land units.

Exciting! One of these days I'm going to win as Japan, heh. Or lose as the allies I guess? Funny thing, I'm almost kinda sorta thinking I should revisit Hearts of Iron III for my WWII fix. Loved the first two Hearts of Iron, but when I bought the third one a loooong time had passed and there weren't any instructions. Unhelpful, and its been gathering dust ever since.
Doesn't hurt to repeat that I think as far as your multiplayer scenarios go Market Garden remains the home run grand slam

Overall they're cool of course but that one hit it out of the ballpark. Dangerously close to being the best custom multiplayer I've played in Order of Battle.

Gotta echo Karis here Erik...after Market-Garden everything you have done is just gravy. I somewhat reluctantly signed on to a 2v2 as the Brits (Karis is my Yankee ally) and it has turned out to be one of the best multi-player games I have ever played and def the best 2v2. I am hard-pressed to think of a battle that could be as well simulated in 2v2 given the suspense element and that every player has to be good at both attacking and defending. Battle of the Bulge is the only potential analog that comes to mind...
