My game with davo is still in progress, around turn 10 or so. Don't exactly remember the score so far, since I submitted my last turn earlier in the morning. Sorry for the trouble ...

Gday Pete
Is there any chance of posting who finished where in each Division? I take it all has finished now as the deadline has passed so it would be nice to see who goes up and who goes down. :)

Cheers Turk

Hello everyone,

The adjudication process has been completed for the Medieval section and the final tables are now available.

viewtopic.php?f=95&t=34103

Congratulations to hidde (Anders) for winning Division A outright with 9 straight wins - a very impressive performance against a strong group of players. In Division B there was a fantastic tussle between 4 players for the automatic promotion spot and Tiavals finally edged out the others here (Turk1964, cavehobbit and Aristides) - so well played Tiavals! And finally in the third division a two horse race developed ane eventually ScipioAsinus narrowly pipped kme37158 on kill ratios. Well played ScipioAsinus.

So the promotion and relegation situation is as follows -

relegated from Division A - iandavidsmith
promoted from Division B - Tiavals
relegated from Division B - nikolax
promoted from Division C - ScipioAsinus

Any other promotions and relegations will be at the discretion of the organising committee once entries for the next season (LOEG Season 9) are known.

The committee has agreed to wait for the arrival of the new version of FOG before starting the next season. For the archive and the continuity of all our records, the Temporary League has now retrospectively been designated as LOEG Season 8 (we have permission from pantherboy) and hopefully the competition will return to its proper place on the FOG forum before the start of next season.

I have enjoyed helping with this competition very much and I would like to thank everyone for making it so enjoyable - both players and my fellow-organisers. :D

That's all folks

You can check out your final placements, in the results and tables chart.

I will be running LOEG 9, next season with Jonno and Triarius' help.

In most divisions, it will be the top 2 promoted and bottom 2 relegated.

The 2 up, 2 down method has been used in the past and so I will be continuing it. It will include players from The Temp League as well so congratulations to all. The one exception will be div A in Imperial period where there were only 8 players, only 1 will be relegated.

Also the deadline for unfinished games will have an extenion of 2 days only

Dark Ages

Div C promoted – scipio asinus and philoi
Div B promoted – Tiavals, cavehobbit,
Div B relegated – Finir and Nikolax
Div A relegated –batesmotel, triarius

Medieval

Div C promoted scipioasinus, kme37158
Div B promoted tiavals, turk1964,
Div B relegated Nikolax, martog
Div A relegated iandavidsmith, claymore

Imperial

C promoted Macsen, Ironclad
B prom – klayeckles, massina,
B releg – Finir, zumh
A- releg - steveh8,

Classical

C promo solly, macsen
B promo rexhurley, maharg,
B releg, finir, ironclad
A releg steve-h8, tiavals

Not sure when LOEG 9 will begin due to new system being implemented but as soon as we have the new system. Will give us all 2 to 4 weeks to get used to it then LOEG will begin.

Cheers

Well, they are measuring player's performances in LOEG over the last year - nothing more, nothing less.

I can't pretend to not have been pretty chuffed to see this, but I was more surprised than anything and I have to say it does seem a bit odd - I think I was only about 4th in each division - and only division B to boot.
I see guys below me who are imo more efficient players too... is it just win %, so that a Div C player who wins all his games is ranked higher than a Div A player who 'only' wins 80%?

Hello Aristides. The first thing to understand is that your position in the table has no bearing on your rating. You get rating points for victories and draws - 10pts, 8pts and 6pts for wins in Div A, Div B and Div C respectively and 5pts, 4pts and 3pts for draws respectively.

LOEG season 8 (aka Temporay League) was your first season in the competition and you played in the B division in each section

In Classical you won 6 and lost 3
In Imperial you won 4, drew 1 and lost 4
In Dark Ages you won 6, drew 1 and lost 2
In Medieval you won 6 and lost 3

So, overall you won 22, drew 2 and lost 12.

To calculate rating points

Wins - 22x8 = 176pts, plus draws - 2x4 = 8pts, giving a total of 184 rating points, which is then divided by 36 (number of matches played) = 5.11

You have benefited this time from playing all your matches in division B and from the fact that you have only played 36 rating matches so far. Depending on who enters next time it is possible that you will find yourself in Division A in a couple of the sections and it is much harder to pick up points there as the standard is much, much higher. It is also harder to sustain a high rating over 70 or 80 games than it is over 36. Most players find their ratings drop a bit after a few seasons because the proportion of A division matches they play steadily increases. It is the same for players who do quite well at Division C level but find it harder at Division B standard. After three or four seasons of competition your real rating will become apparent and I expect it will be somewhere between 4.00 and 5.00.

I have just been pondering something while consuming my marmite soldiers. :D

Currently, when I do the ratings, I give 10pts for a win in Div A, 8pts for a win in Div B and 6pts for a win in Div C, but I do actually think there is a very wide gap between the general standard of play in Div A and that in Div B. So I was wondering whether my 10-8-6 pattern of points awarded was as accurate as it might be. What if I awarded points across the three divisions at 10-7-5 instead? It would mean draws would then get 5 - 3.5 - 2.5 which would mean a more awkward calculation - but overall might this not reflect the relative performance of players in LOEG more accurately?

What do people think?

(just to give an example, it would mean Aristides' overall rating would be 4.47 instead of 5.11)

I think that seems a bit better (or worse when it comes to your KO comp and handicapping:)). Also anything to drop As ranking down is a brilliant idea LOL.

Seriously it does sound better. Not to over complicate matters but in TT comps they use a ranking system (can look into it if you like). However it is quite complicated, I believe. You receive more ranking points in some comps than others, also it depends on whom you play. If you beat a lesser ranking player, you do not receive that many points

Hi Pete,
My two pennorth is that I think you are on a hiding to nothing trying to weight the divisions accurately.
The principle is great but the execution of it is difficult.
It presumes that we can guestimate how much more difficult it is to win (or easier to loose) in one division rather than another.
The first weighting is 1 to 1.33 to 1.66
The second would be 1 to 1.4 to 2; both are as good a guess as any but they will cause places to change dramatically except at the very top and very bottom.

If I were you I would accept it cannot be perfect, and then approach a 'pools panel' of 3/4 players who have played most games, ideally across as wide a range of success as possible and ask them to subjectively rank all players in your list - this will be reasonably consistent. Then pick weightings that give the best fit for the subjective list and let that scoring continue to be the ajudicator from then on.

If you want a quick fix though make it as near 1 to 1 to 1 as possible and then I can pull on my dark stetson, don the face mask and make a career as a handicap bandit
