by Chris Townsend
Division 3
Chris Townsend's Egyptians 945 defeat sunnyboy's Assyrians 704 57 to 32.
On a narrow battle fields constrained by mountains and a lake, the Egyptians opted for maximum Lybian swordsmen, with support from Egyptian guards, archers and massed archers. A small unit of light chariots was held in reserve, and another small force of early cavalry was sent on a long flank march. After an inconclusive clash of skirmishers and initial archery fire (hampered by the flat terrain), the melee was joined when some Lybian swordsmen got enthusiastic in pursuit of the light troops. The chaotic front line provided opportunities for the Assyrians to insert their cavalry successfully into the battle, including using interior lines to switch their reserve from defending against the flanking attack. This did result in the Egyptian right flank being substantially destroyed, but some of the Egyptian cavalry flankers were able to slip by the Assyrian replacement light troop screen. As the last light chariot reserve was through into this chaos, the battle was probably decided on the other flank, when the Lybian swordsmen were able to overwhelm the Assyran heavy chariots, with the help of supporting archery from a low hill.
A GG, well played.

the massive numidian army attempted a total envelopment of Pyrrhus, but the samnite allies shattered one flanking move before it really got started, and the phyrric phalynx crushed the inferior spearmen attempting to hold the center befor the other flanking move could fully develop.

If results keep getting posted then an updated table will keep following

. Table is taking shape; mh5064 setting down a marker for the score to beat with 1 match remaining. Next 3 in the table have to improve their win % to overtake mh5064's Seleucids. Someone could emerge from players with matches in hand, notably Antivirt and sunnyboy if they can keep up current form. Also Grimgrom if he can start converting wins from narrow defeats.

Captainwaltersavage Portugese 1200-1319 with Berber (Marinid) defeats batesmotel Byzantine 1042-1071
41:16
A narrow battlefield dominated by a hill ahead of my right centre was an obvious objective. I sent lights and archers and the Byzantines sent lights and skutatoi in their masses. I sent a cavalry wing out to my right and hoped to hold the host of cavalry sweeping down on my left. The right and the centre was reasonably balanced and I had a slight edge but the battle was resolved on the left. Some of my excitable knights charged deep into the mass of the Byzantine elite cavalry and were suitably smashed to pieces. It was looking dicey for the Portuguese but then the Byzantines raced after the defeated knights and found themselves out of position. Not all the Portuguese Knights had abandoned their duties and manged to break some cavalry themselves. Except that the Byzantine cavalry routed towards their own advancing cavalry. A long chain of of breaks and demoralised knights were flanked charged and it seemed like the whole Byzantine knighthood was swept away in a single glorious charge. Every other Portuguese troop on the left flank joined in to sweep away the demoralised Byzantines. It seemed unfair on the Byzantines as they could easily have crushed my left flank with a different roll of the dice. That said I am all about the glorious knightly charges if they can be made to work.

Captainwaltersavage Portugese 1200-1319 with Berber (Marinid) defeats Garokan German (South East) 1200-1319 w Polish

A wide open plain with a bit of rough ground on the right centre meant that All the Portuguese knights came out to play. The South eastern Germans never really got going as the knights just charged in and smashed into the hastily formed front line and the right flank of the defenders. The knights did what they always dream of doing and smashed the units in front of them, demoralised the units beside the ones they broke and broke any stray unit that was out of position. They even broke the Standard wagon. I had all the luck and distance and timing worked extremely well for me.

Rockmanbob123 Samartians defeated Drudgep Romans 57-29
on a battlefield bisected by a stream the samartian horse gave the roman foot heavy attrition losses in the crossing and then was able to flank the foot as it crossed the steam in disarray. The brave romans fought well and but for some lucky rolls that broke the cohorts this one would have been alot closer.
