What do you guys think do you think our friend DVeight plays the Principate Roman for at least one game against Potlemy before he suggests strategies to the Romans. I think he should LOL what do you guys think?

I am fairly confident that I am a damn good tactician and FoG really complements my style. I was actually thinking about drawing up a participate Roman list and giving either of you two a battle royale.

Quite happy to go against my own Ptolemy forces and show them how its done.

But I think your playing Mitch next Tuesday so I will be on the sidelines observing and I am looking at the Greek states list that I would like to draw up a 800 points list from. Large numbers of HF offensive spearmen that are superior and I bet you I will kick arse over any inferior force, poor pike included. But, if your keen then after the Spartans have their day I will play with your Participate Romans and show you how the pike can crumble even though I hate seeing my boys fade like that.

Actually now two Immortal Fire doubles comps have been won by Early Achemenid Persian there might be a problem with shooty foot we have to worry about

At a demo game at Enfilade here in the Pacific Northwest this May the Early Achemenids shredded their Classical Greeks opponents with all that bow fire. Interesting that they were able to do likewise to Later Seleucids and Indo-Greeks.

To be honest Classical Greek should give EAP a hard time or at least Classical Greek when the hoplites are armoured should....

Seleucid and Indo Greek infantry are probably only protected and protected foot can suffer badly to shooting.

Terrain is key to an EAP army as well. Immortals are pretty good in any terrain other than good going.

Don't hate me but imho MF archers are a little underpriced too or at least they get too many dice in close combat.

PS: it could be possible that some players have seen past tournament won by pikes and started using pikes army without being able to master them.

Well I played last night against the EAP and I was running the spartans and I didn't win the battle, however in saying that we didn't finish the battle ,as time got the better of us but the final score was EAP 8/ 12 and Spartans 9/12.
I will have agree with Hammy that if you take them as Armoured you stand a good chance, the problems I had last night ,he had the terrain to his favour.
However for all you Spartan boys that are tired of getting the hell shot out of them the trick is to take BG of 8's as I did last night this will help.

Just how I ran the Spartans last night

Average Armoured Spartans 3 BG 8
Average Armoured Spartans 2 BG 6
Superior Armoured Spartan 2 BG 6
Plus Lights and 1 BG of Calv

The only one which he got me from the shooting and routed it was 1 BG 6 Average Spartans but then again he was shooting it with 4 BG's ,as you can see even a BG of 6's stand a good chance.

Eventhough I didnt win and I had to travel nearly across the hole board while been under a cloud of arrows, I still manage to kill his 2 BG's of Immortals with my Superiors, and boys, we sliced them up like butter like they wheren't even there they didn't even last to the end of the 2nd round once we made contacted. That was my thrill of the night as we taught the Immortals a lesson of how to fight mano a mano.

By the way he came at me with 6 BG of 8 MF archers (incl his immortals) and a lot of Bow Calvary, actually now that I think of it everything had a bow. Bit confused with all the arrows which where shot at me last night LOL.

That's what I thought as well. I assumed that the Classical Greeks in the demo game were armored, I was busy helping with the LRR vs. Gallic battle on the table over, so didn't learn if the hoplites were armored or not. It may have been that the EAP's mounted BGs worred the Classical Greeks enough that they didn't advance with enough aggression and thus gave the Persian bow a chance to really shoot them up.
