So throwing your first game could be a winning strategy? Discuss....
Hmmmm...could we see all the top players trying to lose? Doesn't seem likely, but just one more way to bate anyone who loses their first game.

The only problem that I recall was the results being unpublished round by round and unfortunately they were recorded incorrectly - at least twice that we know of - which arguably skewed the draw and the results.

Interestingly, if we were to apply this year's scoring system to last year's results, there would be no change in the Ancients placings but in Medieval, Guillaume Fremont who was 3rd, would have won. He lost 5 to 20 in the first round which helped him to avoid most of the other top placed players - he only played 2 games vs someone who ended in the top 10. Result!

What is the scoring system to be used at Britcon?

You take your best five scores out of your six games. Or alternatively, you can choose to drop the Friday night or Saturday night game.

Hi guys

I was also concerned about the ability to submarine by dropping the worst score but this comment is from Tim on the first page:

"By Sunday morning everyone will be counting 3 results in the draw - either because they have played only 3, or because they have played 4 and the draw will always drop the worst score for people playing all the games.

Play 6 and you always ignore your worst score (after round 2) so you can't submarine, play 5 and you have no margin for error as everyone else is dropping their worst score in each round of the draw and you aren't. All in all we suspect that it will actually be harder to submarine than before.."

Makes me feel a tad happier.

Well, that's part of the scoring system. But it would be useful to know how each game will be scored. Doesn'#t seem to be on the website.

I assume it'll be something along the lines of the common BHGS system of sharing 20 points between the players according to attrition points lost and size of army, plus 5 points for breakingthe opposing army?

Yes, that was what my question was seeking confirmation on.

Yes, it will be the Standard BHGS system, i.e.:

You Score

A) The percentage of your original army that remains, divided by 10
+
B) The percentage of your opponents enemy that is lost, divided by 10
+
C) 5 points if your opponent's army routed and yours did not.

Your Opponent Scores

D) The percentage of their original army that remains, divided by 10
+
E) The percentage of your enemy that is lost, divided by 10
+
F) 5 points if your army routed and theirs did not.

A+B+C+D will always equal 20.

Also A+B and C+D are rounded, winners score going up e.g. 12.4 v 7.6 will be 12 v 8 and 12.5 v 7.5 will be 13 v 7.

That's how it is on the scoresheet, which gives you a reasonable indication of your score. For Britcon I will be entering the scores into a spreadsheet that will hold them to as many places of decimals as I need to separate people.

Cough! Shouldn't that A+B+D+E=20 and C+F=5 or 0

Kevin - start by modelling your results against Alasdair - that will test the limit conditions...
