Turn 72

Italy surrenders....hmmm....cheesy exit of the italians. Really feels wrong and to be honest destroyes the fun of the game somewhat. This is the before picture in italy my turn....i have marked the surrender cities for with a red star. 2 rail depots. The southern one i guess was no match but the northern one i had a 10step italian tank better tech upgraded than any of the other allies and 1 entrenchment. By the looks of it retreated after 2 cv attacks and one bb followed by amphibious invasion......bläääääääää

Well like in the movie forest gump "that´s all i have to say about that"

Image

On the eastern front things was pretty quite actually, we advanced a bit further and destroyed a couple of more corps. Despite the italian surrender i am gonna keep on pushing here.

Image

After my turn in Italy, we try to GAR the most important cities. Some more heavier units will be railed in as well. Hopefully i can rince out the US and UK forces above the Gustav line and then take up a defensive line in the fortresses at a low cost. After that i can rail over the heavy units to deal with the invasion of France in 44.

Image

We are taking up a more defensive posture again here in Germany with the Luftwaffe. The next few turns i need to put out some more gar to guard cities in europe and russia. Almost half of the cities garrisoned was done so by italians.

I agree it's a bit of a blow to lose Italy under these circumstances. The defense of Sicily usually gives the Axis some security.

But I would note that the Italians in the real-war were ready to surrender and switch sides as soon as the Allies were prepared to land on the Italian mainland (albeit after Sicily). If anything, I remember there had been some push to make it even easier for Italy to surrender in 2.1 than what was ultimately decided upon.

Anyway, I wouldn't let it spoil your enjoyment of the game. Your Germans still have a lot of room to maneuver!

You are absolutely right, it is just that i had taken almost every precation possible and yet they don´t last longer. But i could actually railed in more troops to help out.

The bummer of it is that i had planned for Italy to last through the game....that is a disapointment. Well well...like you say, still got lot´s of space to manouver

The problem is that some of the surrender "cities" are now rail depots, which means that it's usually impossible to prevent the surrender when the Allies attack.

Yeah, makes it harder....what i perhaps should have thought of was railing in gar to cover the landings hexes around the depot as well. I was so sure that Italy wouldn´t surrender on first try so i had time to counter attack and retake the lost depot. Zechi admitted that he got a bit lucky taking the northern depot....but that is the way it is.

The good thing is that Zechi seems to be landing pretty much everything he has got in the Med now. That means i can destroy most of it during the winter of 43, stabilise the front and redeploy for summer 44 when allies land in France. Germany is still strong and have ok manpower so i think fighting on 2 fronts will be fine. :D

Turn73

Pretty quite turn on the eastern front. Not much movement by Zechi and i destroy only a corp and one mech, also capturing Ola. Zechis northern flank seems to falter a bit so infantry is advancing forward towards Osmk. Perhaps Zechi will see this as a threat....

My mechs will be getting valuable upgrades in a couple of turn making them real superior to all other units. It seems that i am slightly in front of the russians in infantry tech still, would serve me good if we can keep it that way.

Garrisoning russian cities are still going on, i might have to send a mop up team with german infantry to retake some of these cities lost, but so far nothing major though. A small nuisance :D

Image

In Italy zechi lands more troops, there was a paradrop to take Genoa and my guess is that he will use this harobur to offload the rest of his troops. Rommel arrives with his Panzer unit to spread some fear into the allies in Italy. Next turn we will start flushing them out. The Gustav line is garrisoned and will hold for now. There are still some cities that aren´t gar in Yugoslavia, but if he wants to spread out his forces and land there then i won´t stop him. Just pick em off one by one

Image

Heavy escorted convoys and material bound for England and later the coast of France i guess. German subs will not intervene for now, to close to the mainland of US and RAF/US bombers. 1-2 bomber runs almost sinks a sub nowdays, so i have to be careful. Maybe i will retreat them to attack the landing crafts in 44 instead.

Turn74 September 1943

Before my turn and Zechi is pretty quite on this front still. I guess he has a weak russian airforce and my units are getting high organisation and entrencmnets. He will probably wait unti winter and then attack....Next target is pointed out.

Image

More landings in Genoa. Intense naval movement...target is the UK tank just south of Florence

Image

My SS Panzer moves in to get a 14-0 odds and the UK tank is destroyed....superp german technology put to good use. More reinforcements arrive to flush out the ramaining troops at Genoa. Also sent down strat bomber to scout for landings. Spotted one trying to sneak in and prevented it quite easily. Evacuation of Sicily is completed and some extra well needed gar units arrive to mainland.

Image

On the russian front 1 corp and 1 mech destroyed. I am curious to how much the russians make in PPs....could it be around 80-85? Anyway, i think there will be only a couple of more fair weather turns left. I must make up my mind if i am gonna dig in and stand fast or retreat during winter. How is the winter organisation penalty during 43, is it still noticable?

Image

In the south we are having some fun....first we have an epic battle in the Black sea between a rumanian DD and russian BB....my aim was to finish of the gar before it refits. Think the game is over though :D

Attack on the oilfields are progressing...had some really bad luck with the rolls but perhaps next turn will be better. Not that i need the oil but this will for sure garantee my oil production throughout the game no matter what happens on other fronts.

Image

Garrisoning is almost complete of all cities....so soon we can start producing new units for the upcoming invasion of France. The convoy that i spotted in the atlantic is bound for UK.

Turn 75 and september 1943

Zechi continue to land troops in Italy, taking Turin in northern Italy. Also bombings of the Gustav line started so i might have to reinforce the line with german corps.

Image

A sneaky paradrop from Norway into copenhagen....that was not so good for me. Winter is closing in so i don´t think i have the time to smoke him out before bad weather. So that will leave Zechi free to reinforce Denmark with plenty of troops close to the hart of Germany. Even worse the dreadful allied airforce would cover entire germany....So this might turn into a priority later on

Image

So we close in with some reinforcements in Denmark and also place a gar to prevent Hauge from falling before bad weather sets in. Zechi told me that he had strong units landing in Denmark...how strong i don´t know yet since i can´t see them. I am kind of hoping for bad weather in that north sea next turn so he can´t land. That will take him some time to embark one by one in the harbour of Copenhagen

Image

In Italy we destroy a gar and the US tank that landed quite easily i might add.... also bring in some reinforcements, SS mech in Milan and a corp in the gustav line. That should hold them at bay for now.

Image

On the russian front things have been quite....i attacked and destroyed 2 corps and got a free run attack at the russian bomber. Nearly destroying it. I will continue to chew on the russian forces as long as i can.

Production of new units is under way and preparations for summer action in 44 on pretty much all fronts. This will be exciting to see how we will manage. My aim is to cling on to Moscow and destroy as much as possible of the allied landings.

Convoy hunting is still on....just spotted a unescorted convoy in the south atlantic that heads to US, will probably be sunk next turn

I think that you messed up the order of some pictures, again... Check the SCs showing Denmark in the two updates, especially.

I think you should be actually happy of Italian surrender. I bet German PP income is now well above 200. Even 250 maybe.

Without the allieombings, sure :) now i land on 220-230 depending on What the allies target....it's good revenue.
Oil is good as well. Make around 105 barrels/turn
