I still have mixed feeling about this one:

X-com . . . brings back wonderful memories. Even though it was available on the PC, I preferred the Amiga version "UFO - Enemy Unknown". Why mixed feelings, VPaulus? Is this new incarnation turn-based?

Yes, it's turn-based. I need to see a gameplay video.
For me X-Com besides the great gameplay it had a great and specific ambiance.
I'm still not totally convinced that this project has the right ambiance. The interview that I posted a few posts back, the one with the composer, spoke exactly about that. At least that guy, knows what he's doing. But I can't judge only for looking at the graphics. So I need a little gameplay.
But yes, I have some hope.
There are a few games that I would like to see relaunched with a new version. And I've been waiting for them for a lot of years.
One was Panzer General and that I was granted :D. The other was a new Dungeon Master and everything indicates that Legend of Grimrock will deliver. I wanted a true Elite sequel, and Evochron is near. I want another Operation Flashpoint, and ArmA2 is close, although unfortunately, it's not about Cold War. X-Com let's see this and Xenonauts.

I just checked the new Jagged Alliance link and I'm having mixed feelings about that too. The original design team for Jagged Alliance was really top-notch. Like you said its the ambiance, design philosophy, humour, etc. I don't know whether this sequel is worthy of the original.

To me JA looks better and better, real time with pause and queuing orders seems like the best of both worlds.

Dunno about JA:BiA, preview noted very poor AI. As for real time with pause, I'd better play Brigade E5 or 7.62; JA2 has as good turn-based system as it can probably be (APs, interrupts, all that).
And JA has some magic... don't think this BiA will catch that. I bet 100$ it won't.
PS If only I could find some way to make JA2 run on my widescreen.

Should I post an OT thread about Vaporware?

Black Mesa is coming and no… we are not kidding:

Well DNF was released, so everything is possible, I guess.

The first reviews for JA: BiA are rather mixed, the AI seems really bad and just throws hordes of enemies at you, so little tactices required and there are some bugs aswell. I'm gonna wait for a patch first then.

If you're interested, there's a demo available for JA BiA (354 MB)

Remember Space: 1999?
There will be a Space: 2099 remake:

That was a huge success in Portugal and for my generation it was more important than Star Trek, which of course, is an heresy.
I wonder who will be Commander Koenig. Martin Landau was just great.

Well I sort of played the demo for Jagged Alliance, can't say I really like the experience. The AI behaviour is really weak and it seems to 'solve' this by throwing enemy after enemy at you - at least this was my experience in the demo. Also the fact that there is no fog of war really detracts from the gameplay.
Maybe later when some improvements are made.

So now I'm looking at Kingdoms of Amalar: Reckoning (what's in a name huh :D), maybe nice to fill the time until Diablo 3 finally get's released. Only...damn EA and their Origin.

Why Space: 2099 Won’t Be a "Dark and Gritty" Reboot of Space: 1999
...
Space: 2099's goal is not to attempt to re-tell the specific story of Space: 1999. We are not trying to make some "dark and gritty" version of Space: 1999. There is no reason to re-tell the Space: 1999 story since we already have Space: 1999! However, through our new story and presentation, Space: 2099 hopes to re-kindle and remind fans of those memories of a show from 35 years ago, but more importantly help bring back to all science fiction fans that sense of awe, fear and incredible spectacle that is the unknown, unexplored universe. It is important that we endeavor to bring something new and exciting to the table.

Anyone give that new Jagged Alliance a go? I tried the demo and was absolutely disgusted. Feels like just another Hired Guns.
It's pretty incredible that JA2 and all the user mods for it is still the best Jagged Alliance there is, these new games can't hold a handle to it.

No, and I'm not even encouraged to try the demo and waste my time, after reading some gamers reviews.
I guess it's just another franchise ruined.

In Germany the ratings for JA BiA were between 60 and 75 %, so far. Image

Ah, nice to see the updates (tweeks) for the BBS ! Image

My sentiment exactly. I dunno if I'd even vote it that high though.
And shipping WITH DLC already available? That's just bad taste I'm sorry. DLC at release should be baked into the game.

Not to toot my own horn too much, but DLC should be created directly based on player feedback. Take everything your players enjoyed about the main game, study and analyze their feedback, and produce additional CONTENT (Not new skins or visual fluff) that expands on the points of the game that your players really enjoyed and asked to see expanded on.

That's my philosophy anyways.
