Hi,
You should play some PBEM games for even more fun!
It is cross platform playable so you can play your friends that have the PC version.
The game will always look for the CEAW Grand Strategy v2.0 in your documents folder.
This is an improvement over the original CEAW1.06 where the AI, HotSeat, PBEM and TCPIP folders were inside the application itself.
That is where you leave it. If it is missing as you have found out, it will treat it like a fresh install and ask for Language, Memory and windowed or Full Screen.
You can create an alias that points to the folder elsewhere at a location of your choice.

Does anyone know how to stop a CMD error from closing?
If I could read that error, it'd help to figure out why the mod won't start.

Hmm ... Let's trying this. GS is trying to save files to \My Documents\Grand Strategy 2.0\*
If you would please open up notepad, wordpad, etc. and try to save a dummy docment there and to all the sub folders. You may also wish to check and make sure the Grand Strategy 2.0 folder is not set to read only.

According to some of those troubleshoots.
The mod should have 130 folders, 12,873 files, and be 359MB.
Mine is 351 MB, contains 12,848files, with 132 folders.
How can this be possible?
Should I try a different mirror location and install it again?

Your numbers are really close and since you have more folders and files I wouldn't worry about that. The differences due to the large number of different versions. The one I installed to was an older version of CEaW (1.00) brought up to 1.12 gold through a number of upgrades. So seeing these difference don't surprise me at all.

Okay I managed to get the game running now I think.
Now I just need to figure out how to change languages.

Good deal. Probably the easiest way is to delete the settings.txt file in the
*:\My Documents\CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0\ folder. Then when you start up the game you will be asked to select your language.

Yeah
Ive got the same prob.... I'll try a clean load without 1.06.
It's taken me about 40 mins in all so far , not that much out of my life and if I can't get it to work i'll reload to v.1.12.
So thanks to all those who've put in much more than 40 mins to give me the option of this FREE update
Uninstall script

Sorry for the potentially dumb question, but I don't see an uninstall script. By 'Uninstall' do you folks mean removing the folders:
\grand strategy mod
\ceaw - grand strategy
under the base installation path of the vanilla CEAW (1.12 in my case)?

If you used the installer then under the windows Start menu you have the option to run the uninstaller to remove GS.

Thanks. Deleting the folders worked. You guys do terrific work supporting your mods. As I've stated, I would gladly pay for such quality work. Perhaps that would generate some revenue for Johann so he can continue developing his engine for us!

GS 2.0 Mod working well in Windows 7, the forum posts were useful in making sure the patch was directed to the correct folder. First impressions are that this is a big improvement in an already good game. The extra documentation is very extensive, lots of helpful hints and gameplay tips. Congratulations for all the hard work that has gone into this, it really has produced an excellent package, this is more than a mod, it is more like a new game.

Hello,
Running XP Pro, the game had the same problem described in so many posts when I installed V2.0 over the top of V1.06, but when I uninstalled V1.06 and then re-installed v2.0, it all ran fine, which simply confirms all the above experience.
The one thing I'd mention is simply in hopes of sparing other gamers some intense frustration.
My opponent started a new PBEM game, emailed me the file, and I put it in -
C:\Program Files\Slitherine\Commander - Europe At War\Grand Strategy Mod\data\pbem
But when I started up the game, and chose "new PBEM" from the main menu, it didn't see the file. Well, after several minutes of intense annoyance, exercise of choice Anglo-Saxon vocabulary, and making a fresh cup of coffee, (nothing like a jolt of caffeine to stimulate the middle-aged brain), I clicked the "up one folder" button in the load window several times and realized to my intense chagrin that the game was looking under the thrice-accursed "My Documents" area, not under Program Files.
Ah, yes, welcome to the 21st century, marsupial...
Hopefully, as I say, this observation will be of some use to someone.
Anyhow, all now seems to be well. Big grats to all concerned on another fine version of the splendid GS mod, and wish me luck. This is my first time playing as the Allies, and it's going to be a challenge.
In closing, one last thing. Is there a central area for errata and feedback on the manual? Having once worked as a proofreader, (back in the dawn of time), I have noted a couple minor things I'd like to point out for future editions.

If you like start a thread for discussion on the GS manual in general and I'll sticky it.

I recently downloaded Commander: Europe at War Gold from Matrix. No problems there. Then I downloaded and installed the Grand Strategy Expansion. No problems...until I tried to launch it. Nothing happened, nothing, that is, except that an error text file was created: Windows Error: The system cannot find the file specified. KERNEL MEMORY CHECKING IS **OFF**.
I have tried the two fixes recommended in this forum, but they do not work. In the first place, the only files in the scenario folder are the files that are supposed to be there (though they are not dated from 05/2011). In the second place, there is no such folder under matrix games in which to install the expansion.
I would certainly appreciate your help with this problem.
