Turn 69 - 23 May 1943

The US reaches ASW level 6. I don't see any value in any more Naval upgrades so I sell their 3 Marine labs and buy an AIR & ARM lab instead.
The UK reaches level 2 tank destoyer. Pretty useless as they don't seem to face any German tanks anymore.

I have to pay 28PP for UK transport overcapacity this turn, which I rectify by the end of the turn.

In Finland I take a costal city, almost destroy a GAR unit in the Karelin peninsula and destroy a 2 step Finnish partisan that just popped up.

In Southern Russia Frank retreats to the Vinnista-Odessa Line and he blocks my Black Sea landings.

I pursue the Axis formations destroying 4 INFs 2 GARs & 1 MECH. I take Vinnista, and isolate (not out of supply) a couple of German INFs against the Pripet Marshes. I leave the German INF unit in Kiev unmolested. I'm now in a position to exploit the Lvov gap and some good Tank country beyond. I think Frank will have to retreat AGN to cover this.

In the Med, Frank blocks my Italian and Albanian landings, but at expense of keeping a thin defense line in the south of Italy. So I destroy another Italian INF unit in the south, and finally land Clark in the toe of Italy.

I land in Greece next to Athens, but get poor air bombardment, shore bombardment and combat results, and the Bulgarian INF unit in Athens remains there with 5 steps, albeit in red status.

In France I have more success, although my last-turn French partisan is destroyed before I can utilise it, I manage to land three units and destroy a GAR unit. Frank had actually moved some of his GAR units out of cities. Something I hadn't planned on him doing, so I was unable to take a port this turn, but will be able to take a vacant Brest next turn. So far France is only being defended by GAR units, and there doesn't seem to be a strategic reserve in the West. I think this is a by-product of battle of attrition on the Eastern front.

The UK buys two MECHs for future operations in the low countries, the USSR a TAC & a MECH. I will switch my Russian focus to MECH units for the next few turns, because I am lacking in good city-taking units.

Well Frank has conceded the game so effectively this AAR comes abruptly to an end.

I guess there were three pivotal points in the game for me.

1) Making sure the Germans didn't get Crete
2) Taking Tobruk
3) Isolating the lead panzers during Barbarossa.
