I guess it would depend on the exact time frame; I'm guessing you're moving to Medieval next?

Normans and Lombards would both be options in the early end of the period in the west.

Dates are on the map, roughly 1200s, 1300s and 1400s for the next three rounds.
Guess Hungarian, Norman/Italo-Norman, Crusader might be possibilities. No Lombards in Medieval for these dates.

Looking back over the rules, it seems each turn is supposedly a little over a century, but the labeling on the map could be interpreted as about two, eg, from 901 to 1099 for 10th and 11th centuries. So, depending on the time frame, you could pick possible new enemies accordingly. If the next round is 11th and 12th centuries, you could have armies between 1001 and 1199. Both Lombard lists are 11th century and the Ital-Normans span both 11th and 12th.

I think the next one is round IX so 12th and 13th C ?

Centuries in rounds are overlapping, so with next round being IX and 12-13th centuries that means 1101-1300 AD. And the round after that: X and 13-14th centuries, thus 1201-1400 AD.

So available army lists would be those having some overlap with the time period of the round. Or the army lists that you agree on with SnuggleBunnies. :) It’s not so strict. So will be up to the Byzantine Player and the Enemy player which army lists to fight the battle, and on which terrain.

My vote then would be to add an enemy track for Crusaders

Crusaders could then reuse the red track, with Crete as starting territory. Question is: which army strength? EDIT: I applied strength 3.

I would be fine with whatever you think.
Presume we are replacing the Mongols with them, with only 3 rounds left is there any need for three Enemies ?

Mongols will still stay as well. Since three Enemies are needed for three rounds (each may last as little as two rounds, and there are two Enemy attacks per round).

GG!

Round VIII: phase 4. Battles (Concluded)

1. CRETE: Karvon (German 933-1049 AD, 1560 FP) versus SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine 988-1041 AD, 1560 FP). Mediterranean Agricultural.
=> SnuggleBunnies defeats Karvon 45-9 (+36, decisive victory).
=> Byzantines inflict damage of 2 upon HRE (pacified).

2. PALESTINE: tyronec (Arab (North Africa) 1000-1160 AD, 1600 FP) versus SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine 988-1041 AD, 1600 FP). Middle-Eastern Agricultural.
=> SnuggleBunnies defeats tyronec 64-48 (+16).
=> Byzantines inflict damage of 1 upon Arabs.

Round VIII: phase 5. Byzantine Income

The Byzantine player receives 8 gold this round, and currently holds 8 gold.

Round IX (period III): phase 1. Upkeeping and Raising Byzantine Armies

by kronenblatt
Please note that we're now entering period III, making the fearful forces of Turks, Mongols AND Crusaders available to the Enemy Player.

The Byzantine Player eliminates armies that he can not afford or does not wish to keep, pays upkeep costs for all his existing armies (1 x strength), and raises new armies (2 x strength).

SnuggleBunnies: you currently have 8 gold, of which 7 will be used to upkeep your existing armies (unless you decide to eliminate any of them or reduce their strengths), leaving 1 gold. How do you want to spend your gold this round?

Can you just clarify for me, is this correct:

We have 4 possible armies available
Arab strength 4 in Egypt (it is not reduced by the defeat ?)
Crusader str 3 in Crete
Mongol str 4 in Paphalagonia
Turk str 3 in Anatolia.

Also for the Enemies to win the Crusaders for example would need 3 minor victories OR a major and a minor and the Arabs are the same because they could move to Palastine this turn ?

Also, could we activate two new enemies and leave the Arabs ?

Correct. Enemy armies retain their original strength, but only for the purpose of calculating FP in battles until pacified and then removed(i.e., when strength is reduced to zero or lower through Byzantine victories (-2 if decisive, -1 if not decisive)).
tyronec wrote: Sat Jul 15, 2023 7:22 am Also for the Enemies to win the Crusaders for example would need 3 minor victories OR a major and a minor and the Arabs are the same because they could move to Palastine this turn ?
Didn’t quite get that question. What do you mean?

Enemy players win, or rather Byzantine player loses, if any Enemy army reaches Constantinople. Enemy armies move towards Constantinople through winning battles and ravaging territories, moving into that territory (the one attacked if non-decisive victory and one additional if decisive).
tyronec wrote: Sat Jul 15, 2023 7:22 am Also, could we activate two new enemies and leave the Arabs ?
Yes, all non-pacified Enemy armies are now available since we’re in Period III and none of them share tracks.
  • The Enemy Player receives two movement points that he can assign freely to all non-pacified enemies, whether active or not (if available in the period in question).
    • If assigned to a still inactive enemy, that enemy will be activated and its army taken from the "Inactive Enemies" box and placed on its assigned starting territory on the map (such territory and all territories before it in the track in question becoming irrevocably ravaged) and thereafter move one territory from its assigned starting territory.
    • If assigned to an already active enemy, its army will move one territory (whether already ravaged or not) in the direction of (and ultimately into the territory of) Constantinople.

Thanks.

Presuming this is valid:

Strength 4 Arab army (tyronec) moves to Palestine.
Strength 4 Mongol army (Karvon) activates in Paphlagonia.

Almost correct: Mongol army will also move one territory, to Nicomedia, in addition to being activated.

Also: Not yet. Phase 1 first.
