ROUND 3 - Menace from the West: Irish Scots incursion into Welsh-land.

While the Romano-British were busy fending off the Saxons in the east, the Welsh had to contend with invasions of their own. Can the Welsh push them back out, or are the Scot-Irish here to stay?

I seemed to think only two teams would be dropped after round 2?

I can't fully speak for my comrade in arms but it was tough to attack and protect flanks from the Cavalry especially if Arthur got good defensive ground which I did and certainly our opposition did in the mirror match.

Yes, with an original matchup of 8 teams, that was the case. But Aetius39 increased it to 10 teams due to high interest. And the structure is still based on 6-4-2-1 teams from round 3 and onwards, to the final in round 6.

Thanks to my opponent. The Superior warbands helped break through the Scots centre whilst Welsh Cavalry assisted in outflanking the Scots left, though the Welsh left was in some trouble by game end.

Well the Welsh certainly picked the right terrain to defend and had the benefit of a hill and a valley of death. The Scots obliged by walking down the valley and were skewered by many javelins and then cut down in spear thrusts. One brave Cavalry unit managed to get lined up to charge down an entire line of disrupted and fragg'd warriors who fell like a pack of dominos. The Battle was a blood bath for the Scots who lost the terrain advantage and were mown down.

Thankyou to Fluidwill who took the defeat with good grace and banter. A gentleman.

Aetius39 (Welsh) defeats MarcoCato75 (Scots-Irish) 68-48

Not an easy fight, made worse for the Welsh by a constricted map (water blocking a good amount of the map, especially on their side). But luckily the cavalry still found a way to help, breaking through the left side and aiding flanks and double teams on units. The Scots didn't make it very easy though; they totally smashed through the right side of the Welsh with their superior line troops. I think in the end the mobility of the cavalry helped get the Scots routed before the Welsh could. GG MarcoCato!

The Scots got the short end of the stick, only 1 win, while the Welsh carried the other 4. Interesting as I thought it would be more even, or possibly in the Scots' favor depending on terrain. They seemed to have the better line infantry. Any thoughts?
