D2R - The 2nd Reich traces the path of the German Empire from its creation (1864-71) to its tragic end in 1918.


The modification shows first the course of the 3 so-called wars of unification, which finally led to the founding of the empire in 1871. The first campaign, from 1863-71, is structured around the three wars against Denmark, Austria and finally France. Each conflict can be completed either over a very large map, with one mission each, or over a series of individual missions on small to medium maps. The player thus has the choice of either fighting each of the three wars in the general staff with an overall strategic command, or fighting the individual battles in a quasi-field command.

In the second campaign, the First World War is run through in the period 1914 - mid-1916 and in the third campaign in the period mid-1916 - autumn 1918 from the perspective of the Central Powers.

Not for anything, thank you for delighting us with your creativity ! Is there an update planned or something new ?

This is a really good mod. I’ve enjoyed playing the field command scenarios but I have yet to play the HQ missions because I find them overwhelming. My only complaint is I wish the units looked more vanilla style. The dragoon units look great but some other cavalry seem odd. Overall it’s great though.

_Shougie___ Really good that you had fun with the campaign. As far as the shape of the units is concerned, I have orientated myself very much towards the vanilla style. Many of the units had to be formed completely from scratch, which means that it is not always possible to implement a completely identical basic pattern. In the case of the cavalry, I used quite a number from the Napoleonic War Mod as a template and adapted the uniforms to the actual colours and shapes for the period 1863-71. Personally, I like the Baden cavalry best, which looks wonderfully dynamic. But of course, every player's taste is different.
Good luck with the 3 very large scenarios, which are once again a special challenge. I also recommend you to look into the historical topic (for example wikipedia). You will find a lot there that you encountered in the scenarios. By playing through it, you get a much more intensive reference when you read about it later.

The EU directive on copyright reform has also been implemented in Germany with corresponding laws. This obliges platforms to block all contributions that violate the rules by 1 August 2021 at the latest. Upload filters are to be used for this purpose, especially on larger platforms.

Since the operators of DMP cannot give a guarantee for all components of all mods, the download area at DMP (Design Mod Project) has been completely blocked (since approx. 20.07.2021). Although my two mods (DAW – Der andere Weg (The Other Way) + D2R – Das 2. Reich (The 2nd Empire)) do not have any illegal content, these mods are also affected by the total blocking. How long this blocking will last at DMP is still open.

After all, my mod D2R is also accessible from this site (see above). There is a certain irony in the fact that this has come about, isn't there, Jeffoot777?

The sequel to D2R is progressing well. I have just finished the "Heroes" and "Awards" sections. Before that, the very extensive unit part has been completed. These days I am finalising the campaign structure. It is becoming apparent that it will be less in-depth than last time and more broad-based instead.

Then comes the main work - the creation of all the scenarios for the campaign with the following tests.
