Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
Hi,
So, one of the side effects of the Disband button going AWOL in 8.4.1 (it's coming back in next version) is that multiplayer no longer has the somewhat gamey ability to "unsummon" your troops that you've made tactical mistakes with.
Inspired by this, I might request some tweaks to how the game works in MP (starting with Disband). Does anyone else have any MP gameplay focused bugbears that they'd like to discuss?

Shards,
I think some folks will respond eventually.
I've played quite a bit of MP but not of late.
Maybe an official US v Germany scenario, similar to Dubno fields?
An official battle of stalingrad?
I think the mechanics of it are okay since nothing comesbto mind at first blush.
Nice to see y'all engaging! Keep an keepen awwn! Thanks for getting things sparked up.

I have noticed since the update that when you finish a MP turn it takes you back to main menu and you have to logon again to get to your next MP game. I would like the old behavior returned where when you finished your turn on MP it took you back to the MP screen of games so you can select another game you are eligible for your turn and play it. Thanks!

I would like to see the return of the option to skip the playback of enemy/AI turn.
This was especially handy when testing 2+ player scenarios.

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
Have mostly stoped Multiplayer play of OoB ...
it is a nice single player game - but i play most MP - with 2 or3 or even 4 players ...
and the MP abilitys from OoB is even with only 2 player very low ... no free choice of wich formation (P1 vs P2 or P1+P2 vs AI) and is even much more limited by more than 2 player (nearly no 3 and 3+ player scenarios available - and here the same limit as with 2 players) - and the biggest "bad" point -> no random scenario/battle generation ....
so conclusion (for me and my friends) -> an good amount of nice single player scenarios/campaigns ...
But for MP ............. with only 2 player you maybe get fun, but to few scenarios with to limited formations select options make it hard on the long run ... with more players where like to play - better get another game....

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
I wouldn't mind more naval maps. Although I'm out of my depth regarding multiplayer in a lot of ways. I keep getting errors about having the wrong version of maps so I can't play. Happened recently with coral sea for example. When I look on these forums for help regarding maps there's some rather intimidating information about downloading files and juggling them in various opaque folders, but I'm not clear on the extent to which that connects with multiplayer. Maybe it's just a custom map thingy... Plus I get a lot of maps blocked because I didn't purchase the relevant campaign, but I'm pretty sure I have. Blitzkrieg, Panzerkrieg, Endsieg, the Afrika corps, kriegsmarine, winter war and Rising Sun. Should cover a fair chunk.
Anyway I'm pretty happy with things overall, single player is fun enough.

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
For MP, you shouldn't get any maps blocked by DLC ownership, as long as you own one you should be able to play any!
I'm looking to add more of the popular MP maps to the community crate to make them easier for people to download and use.

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
There are a few new icons in the multiplayer playback UI.
Toggling the camera on/off does not seem to make a difference during playback.
Toggling the turn reports on/off does not seem to do anything?
Why would players want to turn event popups on/off?
They may miss important info.

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
I checked again and you're right, it's not mentioning lack of dlc as an obstacle. Wonder why I thought that... The precise message is "this scenario is not installed on your device". So, I guess I do have to jump through certain hoops to access those. Like there's no simple means such as just accessing community content I presume, there's only the four or five maps there. Actually speaking of the community content box, I notice periodically things there will become mysteriously uninstalled. I don't think it's just a matter of new versions, since when it happens it's every item in the box that needs to be reinstalled.
Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
Custom scenarios need to be downloaded and installed in the My Games...Scenario folder. Not that many hoops...
Some of the stuff in the Crate gets broken during an update (especially the official BoB mod).
Shards will put some more custom content in the Crate, but 99% of available custom mods, campaigns and scenarios will need to be downloaded manually and installed in the mods/campaigns/scenarios folders.

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
Okay I figured so, thanks for explaining. I'm probably trying to talk myself into actually installing one of those custom scenarios. Need a little psyching up for anything related to technology such is the intimidation factor, heh. Honestly it's more dang windows I find impenetrable than Order of Battle!
Screwed up my nerves and managed to get a custom multiplayer scenario up and running (assuming the other player takes their turn...). Interesting. Inspired me to try a custom campaign, but no luck there as of yet. I've done some searching on the forums but only found information on downloading campaigns, which isn't the problem. After I download the file, where do I put it and should I extract it? Because sticking it in the campaign folder and extracting it hasn't made anything available in single player as far as I can determine.
And I sorted it out
Stupid windows was doing weird stuff when I extracted files, creating duplicate / embedded folders. Thanks for putting up with my insecurities, heh.

Re: Multiplayer - Would you change anything?
I never should have grabbed those custom scenarios because now I'm addicted
Look even more like a zombie than usual... One curious thing I noticed was that certain games will be unplayable, supposedly because of a lack of the requisite map but (I think, since I have the maps and they work fine for hosting games) actually due to too much time having passed. I probably already mentioned this in bug / tech support but hey maybe it's a feature too. Not a big deal.
